SASKATOON FTW!
Got my evo on June 23. Going to pick it up on the June 29 in Vancover.

Has anyone taken off the rear bumper add-on? Was it easy?

I think typoist tried it, and the plastic was attached through drilled holes. It would be easy if you don't mind covering the holes! Not confirmed though.

I am the first person from Manitoba to buy an evo. Got it back in March 2008, Octane Blue, GSR. Love the car, handles great, lots of power, turns heads even easier than it turns on the roads.

Well i am happy that most people are happy there are Evolution in canada. I have wanted a Evolution since i first drove a mitsubishi awd turbo car. back in 1990, but you say the evolution only came out in 1991, well then i found out about the evolution back 1992. that was the beginning of my love affair, with evo. But this is just a dream come true for me. i am glad we have our cars. i want to see more on the road.

Also if you're comparing US to Canadian Evos

- No heated seats in US
- No sunroof in the US

No heated seats in a GSR in Canada either

Comparing cars, at MSRP, importing to Alberta, assuming parity between US$ and CAD

US Car

$32990 - MSRP
$675 - Dest.
-----------
$33665

Add 6.1% duty of $2019.90
$35684.90

Add 5% GST of $1784.25
$37469.15

Add a few hundred $ for OOP, reg etc.
$37800, give or take.

Canadian sourced car:-

$41498 - MSRP
$1245 - Destination fee
$250 - PDI
-------------
$42,993

Add 5% GST of $2149.65

$45142.65

Add $70 or so for reg

$45235 give or take

That's still a saving of around $7500 based solely on MSRP's. Add to that the damned site better chance of getting a good deal from a US volume dealer than the tight @rse dealers here in Calgary, and it's a tempting proposition, warranty or no warranty.......well imho it is anyway

Funny, I got mine for just over 40,000

Plus, here in Edmonton, the dealership seems to be fairly mod friendly.

Also, 7500$ based solely on MSRP isn't that surprising. Just because the dollar is even, it doesn't mean that you're going to get the same product for the same price. Look at Europe, they're "overpriced" if you compare it to ours.

That's why I compared MSRP's....apples with apples so to speak. I'm glad you got a good deal on yours up in Edmonton, and for me it may be another option to look at as, in general, the dealers here in Calgary are tighter than a camels @rse in a sand storm and don't give out particularly good deals.

As for 'same product for the same price', well that's where the investigation comes in. I'm well aware of how expensive Europe is comparitive to here (I'm from the UK), but that's a moot point. We can't import new cars from Europe (unless they're North American built and to NA specs), so the prices over there are irrelevant really. They, like Canadian retailers, charge what the manufacturers think the specific market will bear. We can however import from the US and it's an option worth considering at the very least. Some Canadian spec cars (New Impreza STI for example) have a much greater spec list then the US equivalent to reflect the higher price. The Evo, from what I've seen in GSR form, isn't one of those cars.

Each to their own of course. Some are happy to buy direct from the dealers here and good on them. For me, I'll keep my mind open to all options.
