1st post rear diff question

Hello everyone this will be my 1st post on this forums I think... and if not I'm never active till now. I currently have an Evo X that I'm selling and planning to buy a Evo IX MR. I'm from Canada, and purchasing the car in quebec, and the only problem on the car is the rear differential needs a rebuild the owner says. He said it makes a loud sound when driving high speeds on the highway, how much would it cost to rebuild it to oem, or should I just purchase a new oem rear diff?

There's always people selling rear diffs in here, I would personally look for a low mileage one that hasn't been beaten to hell. Once you hit 15 posts and have been here for 2 weeks you'll be able to search the classifieds

The cost to import here to Canada is high and the currency conversion is brutal. This one has 40000 miles or maybe km on the Chassis, he redid the clutch, engine was rebuilt oem. 1000kms on both. He selling the car decently priced. Body is good condition. Only problem is the rear diff.

Edit never mind, I think you're tslkingr about the diff...right?...

1st post rear diff question

You can fully rebuild the diff for less than $2k. Just depends on what needs to be replaced in it, and if you decide to upgrade the actual differential with a 12 plate kit or Torsen unit..

I would recommend a rebuild with a 12 plate upgrade in the stock limited slip. And a HD billet side cover. If it's making a lot of noise, it's either going to need a new ring and pinion, or new bearings.

So an update and kind of a subject change. The guy is the second owner and first owner in Canada. He bought the car at 7000 miles, a drag car in New york. He replaced the Engine at 39000 km due to leaking head gasket and also replaced the transmission same time. The condition of the suspension is fine he daily drived the car no track days. Should I consider this he's asking 16,000 Canadian for it. Has 40000km on chasis

That's $12,200 USD. I would say that is exceptionally cheap in the US, and likely a beater or totaled/salvage title vehicle. However, I have no idea what the market is like in Canada...

For a rare car it seems cheap. I would make sure to thoroughly look it over and drive it before buying it.

Yeah but from where he is located it's also considered a rust vehicle as he lives by the ocean.

$16k CD for a IX is a bargain. Just buy a used 8/9 rear diff on ebay.
