Windshield Crack?

i took my evo out for a ride on Thursday evening. no problems, nothing hit the windshield just out for a cruise. parked it as usual in my drive way. didn't drive it at all yesterday and then when out to wash it this morning and there is a crack about a foot long right in the middle of the windshield starting at the bottom and working it was up the windshield. i looked closely and couldn't find any impact mark of anykind. has anyone else had this problem?

That's BS man, I'm sure they'll blame you or blame anything but the glass. But you could see if they can help you out. Also, if your insurance ded. is low, file a claim. It won't effect your rates unless the claim is over $1,000.

I think that the Evo windshield is different from the regular lancer.

I suggest taking a pen with a fine tip and running it down the crack. If it doesn't stop any where along the crack then there is no impact point, and it's a stress crack. If it does, then a rock hit it when you didn't even notice it, and the crack showed up later. I see this all the time at Nissan especially in the hot summer months, and I goodwill a new windshield as a matter of customer satisfaction. Talk to the Service Manager at your dealership and be cool about it. Ask him to talk to his DSM, and see if he'll goodwill it.

I had a crack in my windshield about 1 month after buying the car. Needless to say I was pissed.

I called up my local dealership, and apparently they don't even replace windshields on cars that they sold! They ended up referring me to another guy who comes out to people's house to replace the windshield. OEM windshield on the X is ultra-expensive, on the order of around 800 bucks plus labor. It is different from the regular lancer windshield in that it is lighter and thinner.

The guy ended up doing the whole job for 400 bucks, and I was pretty happy with the work. And then 2 weeks later, I had another rock hit the windshield but the chip is very small so I think I will just put some super glue on it to keep it from spreading. I have really bad luck with cracked windshields.

It's possible that the crack occured at the time of manufacturing or assembly. If you can convince the dealer that it didn't occur because of road damage you might have a case. Even a small pit or scratch on the perimiter of the glass (where you can't even see it) can cause a crack if it's under stress of twisting.

if the crack can be covered by a dollar bill, GEICO sends someone to your house and fixes it for free.

I also have a crack about a foot long towards the bottom passenger to the center of my front windshield of my evo x. I did my usual cruise to work and also heard nothing hitting my window. After a long hot day at work, i got in my car and notice the crack -_-. But for me it looks like the smallest peddle ever nicked it and after sitting in the sun for bout 5 hrs, the crack spread like forest fire. My evo X is only a week and a half old. Since I notice there was a rock chip near the edge of the window. I guess its coming out of my wallet

If the Lancer windshield fits properly, might want to get that installed instead even though it's slightly heavier (that is, if it's more durable).

Wow you guys are quick to blame mitsu on everything quickly. This happens to other brands as well, it's natural for some parts to fail prematurely since all parts are not created equal even though they try.

same thing happened to my ix but it was on the top corner on the passenger side and i wasnt sure what happened because it was at night while i was driving and i didnt have any impact mark either but i assumed it happened from getting a visor strip put on that day when i got my windows tinted...im not positive about the X's but the windshield should be the same as the base model...i had to order a windshield for a base lancer and i havent had any problems since
