Evo X, good buy?
Wait till January. Prices will drop substantially, the new models will be out, and you will be able to have many GSR/some MR's on the used market for quite a discount with all of the warranty still in place. The dealers near me have not sold a single GSR/or MR. Things are only going to get worse... Forbes.com calls it the beginning of the car crisis following 2 years of house crisis that still is falling... my .02 cents...
Here's a couple of thoughts. Unless you have to have the first run of a production vehicle it's often better to wait until the intial bugs are worked out for the second year and they become less desirable. Less desirable means lower prices (economics). However, I think a very clean 8 or 9 is a great value right now. Even though prices are holding up fairly steady there's a lot of car to be had for the money. Ask yourself what you want. The feeling you get driving a brand new EVO or do you just want something fun with performance potential
Also, do you own your Honda outright (no lien)? If so, keep it drive it daily and shop for an evo for your weekend, track car, whatever. Your not going to get a ton of cash for your used trade in depending on year and model.
Just my thoughts

On a side note the op may rent and may not have the space for another vehicle.
First off , people who say that a car is the best it is now and would not likely improve are full of it
Evos have improved over the past years. I actually drove a VII ( RHD) and it was great, drove an VIII and it was better. I am sure that X would be tweaked and it will get better if mitsubishi survives.
Also the new car market is pretty bad for dealers and you might be able to pick one up at a very good price at year end becuase I am certain that inventory would still be there.
I looked a used IX's and considering that people are asking $27k for EVO IXs when I can get a brand new X for 30k is nuts.
I'd wait for the market and the conditions are in your favor considering you are a new car buyer and have $30+k to spend

Start by checking edmunds or even taking your car to Carmax just for info. If your sales tax rate is say 9% and they offer you $10,000 for your trade then your break even point would be $10,900 for pp sale.
no i wouldnt buy the X this year ...the pedal issue is a laugh at matter just hearing about that should have people not buy the X...i wouldt invest that money in that vehicle loook at a different $30+ car
it is very true that the auto market is going down, which means that if you have the money, it is the perfect time to get an X. Go during the end of a month, and look for salesman that are willing to do anything to fill up their quotas. You will be surprised at how good of a deal you can get X's now. I bought mine last sunday, 6/27. Phantom Black Pearl with SSS. I wasn't seriously about getting an X, but I just could not pass up the dealer offered me. I got it under dealer invoice, and honestly, X is EVERYTHING I wanted in a car, it really handles like none other.
