It's about time! Canadian bumper law amended!

Looks like we will loose the rear bumper add-on for the 2009 model year! It also looks like we will be able to import more cars (an evo IX maybe?). I decided to wait a bit for the evo... just lease a Saab Turbo X today but I will definitely get one in a year or so when my wife's lease is over... without the add-on!

Yea what was the deal with that bumper add-on? It looked just like another piece of plastic. If it was, don't tell me they actually thought that would make a difference. I always thought it was something to set the Canadian ones apart.

US front and rear low speed crash test speed is 2.5mph, Canadian is (well was) 5mph. The add-on was needed to make it pass...

Don't count your chickens just yet Canada can still deny the car admissibility and then you have to use the same 15 year law that allows older Skylines into the country.

It's already been made pretty much clear that the X will be importable, however, I if I were going to get one I would do it asap so Mitsu doesn't decide to take the immobilizers out of the american cars or something stupid like that to stop us from importing.

RIV site has been updated now. Appears that all Evo's, all years are now importable. Anyone in the US with an earlier model Evo, your resale value just went up.

You can import but you don't get a warranty

I think you can get 3rd party warranties but one company I looked into charged $2k for 5 year 100k warranty. Talking to them I found out this was actually an EXTENDED warranty, and if Mitsibushi didn't warranty the car, they wouldn't offer that warranty etc.

So if an extended warranty would cost $2k then what on earth would a full manufatuter-replacement warranty cost?

Plus the car is made in Japan so you have to pay 6% duty bringing it over to Canada

Plus no sunroof in the US model

Plus no heated seats on the US model

That's why I bought one in Canada (haven't received it yet though)

Please don't play with my emotions You're telling me that I can LEGALLY import a (lets say) 03' Evo 8 to Canada?

If this is true then this changed my plans for next year for SURE!

It certainly threw a wrench into my upgrade plans for my GTS. Why would I drop more money into my lowly FWD N/A car when I can get an 06 MR?

Funny how excited folks are that they can now buy an old used car instead of the newest model...LOL
