I've purchased 2 Evo 9 and not once did I take it for a test drive. My test drive was driving back home with a giant grin in my face

I think thats complete BS. Im not a big fan of bmw but I did almost get the 135 and think their sales tactics are great....
the 135 was released on March 19th. That day every single dealer got one fully loaded black with red leather 135 as a designated test drive car. I walked into the dealer and was driving the car within 10min. The salesperson was cramped in the back telling me to really push it.
Now Im 23 and walked in with shorts and a T with the gf. This dealership also sells ferraris and maseratis and is very high class.
They are using one car to sell a **** load more. At the end of the model year sell just that one demo car at a discount.

Well now opposite to what most people think its not how much punch it packs that I want to find out in the test drive. That I can trust to hear from you guys who have owned several. Why I want to take a test drive is to find out how it drives in normal drive which makes up 70% of my driving. Its important to know if I fit with the car, if I like the ride quality and ergonomics of it. But more important than all that I want to go through the gears of the car I could be potentially buying and to know if it has any of the transmission noises and problems that people have talked about.

I do have the money and credit to get one but not sure if I look like I do. Anyway any one know a dealership in the Kansas City area that lets people test drive. I plan on getting one hopefully soon but can't see it happening if I can't drive it first.

I kinda understand why they wouldn't let someone test drive it because they could beat the **** out of it but also they can expect you to just buy it without test driving it. I think the saleman could go with the person to make so they know for a fact your not gonna beat the **** out of it

Yes I am a $@#! bag lol. I tried to order one from the dealership that let me test a car, but they refused to get me one that was fresh. 500 miles is too much on a "new" car, especially if they are only going to knock $200 off MSRP when all the other dealers were offering them fresh at invoice.

When you tell the salesman, "I have cash and I will put a deposit down right now if you order me the one I want" and they say no, wtf else are you supposed to do? For the record, I did tell them I would want a fresh one before I test drove it. And they originally told me they would get one. It was not until after I went back the second time and my brother test drove it, when I brought my check book and sat down to make a deal, that they decided to tell me that they would not order a white RS for me. The tester was a GSR. It was not even the model I was looking for, and they knew that before I drove it. I ended up buying an MR, which they did not have in white and would not order either.

Yeah I am the #@^% bag here.

i recently moved to westchester from queens (huge difference) but still go to queens any chance i get to visit family and friends. My job is in valhalla so i did a search for the closest mitsu dealer but one that was also close to the highway so that i would be able to do a test drive on the highway seeing how thats what im mostly on...

i pull into the dealership and the theres like 6 salesman smoking outside circling the truck like sharks smelling fresh meat...i get out the car with my fiancee and 6 month old son...(yeah remember all the ppl smoking??? she wasnt to happy bout that.) so we walk into the dealership with the dealer woh opesn the door for my fiance and there she is gorgeous WW X...just looking mean like what has taken you so long to pick me up...i walk around the car like 3x s hoping that the air will dry my pants cus i in my pants bout 4xs...we sit in the car and my fiance even likes the car holy **** i could drive home today...

WAIT WAIT no you cant cus when you ask the salesman for a test drive he asks you umm when would you like to buy the car??? i asked for a test drive thats a yes or no answer or so i thought....so i told him id like to get her on hte road first seeing how i never drove a turbo'd car nor an awd car and i wanna see how she feels on the highway...(OH YEA THOSE DAMN SEATS ARE LIKE BUTTER) he goes on to tell me he has a new system and that he only lets you test drive once all the paper work is completed??? mind you i have about 7500 on me ready to put in his hands...so i said to him can i please talk to someone who's policy is not yours...well everyones policy is like that here...then he goes on to tell me we actually dont test drive the evos but you could test drive a LANCER once the paperwork goes through????

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT???

so we put the baby back in his car seat and drove away...
This happened to me as well, but the guy was nice about it and he drove the car and let me get a feel of it and asked me later on the road if i wanted to drive it , which i refused because i was conviced LMAOO

It happened to me when I bought my MR last week. I walked out of one dealer. I went to another and they said the same thing. The manager looked at me then he look at my 350Z and not only let me drive an Evo, he let me test drive a MR. I would have never bought an MR unless I test drove it first. Good luck.......db

I guess its where you are located and how the dealership sales are... I personally test drove a X about 5 miles around a 35 mph zone and there was no problem.. I also did not leave any money nor make plans to.. I did exactly what you said ( i wanted to feel it out) and the crazy part about it , i bought my car from another dealership. Everybody is right about the 16 yr kids test driving and the dealership trying to avoid that.... so i guess if i can give any advice to "real" potential EVO X owners do what i did .... go in with your work outfit or look professional , be well spoken and confident....

i hate dealerships for that very reason. no customer service.

if they are worried about the car getting beat up, the should drive the customer

i wouldn't have bought my X without test driving it. i never drove an evo and wasn't about to go through all the riggamaroll to buy one then spend years paying for something i knew no more than what i've read.

if the dealer just opened the door and let me sit in it and look in the trunk and what not. i would have been like "very nice thanks and have a nice day."

point being: if you want to have any hopes in selling an evo to a non previous owner of one then you should let it be driven. how do they plan to "get customers out of their bmw's" if they don't let you try the damn thing out?

I think they all failed to understand the very basic rule of sales....which is "You don't choose the customer, but customer choose you"

This is why, most of the car sales will not last long in the industry and only a few will succeed.

I was offered a test drive, I declined, I never had an AWD or Turbo car, I just asked the manager to get on with the paperwork, I just wanted to get on the road back home. The best trip back home. I did call ahead and asked to speak with the sales manager, not a sales guy. I hope I don't offend anyone but I knew what my trade in value was, I knew what the bottom line price and I had my finances together so do your homework, have your finances in place, and be prepared to walk away if the deal isn't what you're looking for. It was my easiest buying transaction. I actually made the deal over the phone, once Wifey gave me the thumbs up to trade in the Subie.

Michael Ko at Maywood Mitsu can help you out. He knows his stuff. I bought mine at Bell Mitsu, I didn't know Mike back then.

Good luck and I agree with Robsevo, go to a meet, you will run to a dealer the next day.

no you didnt offend (speaking for myself) but i know hte bottom line i had finances ready in pocket and i had a printed copy of my credit report from all 3 agencies. so i was pretty much ready to buy the car right away. i wanted to do the test drive because im a real spur of the moment buyer. expecially when it comes to automobiles. i bought a gto just passing the dealership, after months brought that back, went to a nissan dealership with my friend to get his car serviced and bought a 350 brought ath back 3 months later because my fiance was giving birth to our son. but i did research on the evo (as much as possible without owning. been a member here for a while just reading threads and what not.

i completely understand not wanting someone to beat up on the car during a test drive but isnt that why the salesperson is with you on the test drive?
