Need advice--> X > E46 M3?

So I'm seeking some advice. I have an 05 m3 that I traded in my 05 STi for. It was a rather impulsive trade, I purchased the subie new and then traded for a used m3.

I didn't do my background work on the m3 and feel like I got burned. No need to flame...I know I made a mistake. It's been painted on at least 4 panels and the interior is pretty beat up.

Anyways, I miss the driving feel of the subie, really like the X (and the IX as well), and am not that impressed with the m3. And as gay as it may sound, the Evo/STi community is much more fun than the BMW community.

So, does anybody have an opinion on whether I should trade the m3 for a X? I'm thinking phantom black (or WW) GSR, with or without SSS package. I've never driven an Evo, and I know posting on an Evo forum will elicit a biased response, but I'm looking for some input from those that have more Evo experience than I.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I like the X, Bmw cost a lot to keep up. I guess it all depends on what you want.

I love my X and I think you would be very happy with it. You certainly should test drive one first though because people have different tastes. Let me offer you one bit of advice though. If you do decide to get an X. Either get the body kit or get mud flaps IMMEDIATELY because people without the body kit are having rocks kick up and chip the pain on the rear doors within only a few hundred miles.

I've driven both and both are 2 different cars. The Evo 8/9 are more harsh but you feel like you're more in control. The M3 is a sexy car, very smooth unlike the the Evo. Both have excellent power. Not sure on the X since I have never been or driven one.

Bmw doesn't cost a lot to keep up anymore, the warranties cover everything except tires. So you can go 3 or 4 yrs now without paying for anything but tires. I love evo's but the new m3 is a great car I have driven it, and I like it alot. If I wasn't going to buy a GTR, I would buy the new m3.

I appreciate the feedback. The m3 looks great, don't get me wrong. If it was purchased new I would probably have a different opinion. There are little things with the car that are annoying and keep me from being completely satisfied. The paint has SERIOUS swirl marks, is fisheyed on the driver side door, and has a lot of scratches on a number of areas. Sure, I could get it detailed, which would make some minor improvements, but it wouldn't look pristine. The interior needs some work too.

My subie was modded to stage 2, and just felt like it had more ***** than the m3. Modding the bimmer would cost an arm and a freakin' leg. I could trade it for a spankin' new gsr now and essentially come out even, if not a little ahead, on payments.

I know they're different beasts, but they are used for essentially the same purposes. And since I've never driven an Evo, I thought this would be the right place to come for advice.

Any other thoughts?

The new m3 is an entirely separate issue. That car is beautiful.

I think you really should test drive a X first..
Also, there have been a lot of issues popping up with the X, as it is a brand new model. It may even be wise to wait a year or so.

And yes. The new e92 M3 is one of my favorite looking cars ever.

All of the dealers I've spoken with in NC have stated that a test drive isn't going to happen. How should I go about setting up a test drive? Also, the dealers around here don't really want to help and they're overpriced. I've been looking at South Coast Mitsubishi, but a test drive there isn't exactly an option....

If you wanna pick up chicks with your car and love to get looks from others, keep the m3. If you are looking for a reliable dd, take the x. During winter, EVO rocks. During summer, m3 of course takes care of your driving thrills. If you are looking to mod your car, unless you are LOADED, do not buy the m3. Trust me on this one.

Unfortunately, the baby seat in the back and wife in the front of the m3 don't exactly make it easy to pick up chicks!

Flame suit on.....how does the X compare to an '05 STi? I'm sorry, but I loved driving subie. I don't get the same thrill from the m3.

i can sense from your posts that you are unhappy with your m3, too many things you dont like about it. so i would say trade it in.

unfortunately i cant tell you to trade it in for what car. that will be your choice and your choice alone.

if anything i love my X and have not regretted it one bit.
