No. ASC is a computer that controls the attitude of the brakes to rotate and slow the car down. AYC is a computer controlled active rear differential that's only meant to increase performance.

Yeah, I know it's counter intuitive. I didn't believe it either until my friend who races professionally in China showed me how to drive this car. But remember that my car has a modified suspension, and a racing slicks. So it might be different for a stock EVO X.

from what I've felt, the slip angle the asc allows is ample, and greater than i normally would induce on the track. of course I've never tracked an x, but i have lots of track time in my VIII. also, for the OP, did you try the tarmac, snow, and gravel settings out?

What does ASC stand for exactly?

ACD, AYC, S-AWC I'm all familiar with but the abbreviations are out of control.

Correct, don't listen to any of the other people who speak before realizing they don't have a clue.

dude read your manual. ASC = anti skid control. not active stability control.

I really should the read the damn thing. I always thought it was Active Stability Control, like in the Outlander. Good catch. I'm a little smarter because of it.

Magazines are often wrong. I have seen articles where they have said both ways in the same article. Look at a diagram of the ACD, it is fixed 50/50

if you read it you will learn that asc is just a traction control. meaning it won't cut out the revs on you if you lose a little bit of traction like when launching or power sliding. SAWC functions as an "active stability control" which is comprised of several systems like you see in other cars. the stand out with the evo is the ayc. most cars with stability control don't have an as sophisticated yaw control like we do.

push the button once turns off your traction control. holding it down turns off the stability control and traction control but maintains the yaw control.

the difference driving modes (tarmac ect) adjust the acd's clamping timing and duration. regardless of what mode you're in pulling the hand brake while moving puts the acd in a free state allowing you to slide without the computer trying to correct it.

the only way the different modes would make you fast is which one slows you down the most in corners and how good of a driver you are.

Strange .. your manual is different from mine .. mine DEFINITELY refers the ASC as Active Stability Control
Also it says with ASC on it adjusts brakes AND engine power to prevent skid/slip ..
It says the same as yours about the braking control on the AYC though..

I have a feeling something is lost in the translation

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/s...evo.html#guide

Anyways..I translated it to english ..
