Evo X GSR replaced through lemon law
Evo X GSR replaced through lemon law
Here is my story:
Bought the X with SSS early May in Dallas on my way home from honeymoon (I live in Santa Fe, NM). Broke the car in nicely on the 600 mile ride home and had it flashed soon after at the dealership. Also got a high-altitude flash. At least so they say. Beside the usual things like the notchy 2-3 shift, etc. all seemed well until I reved it at the light and noticed how it took long for idle to drop back to normal. I read up in the forum and learned that it may have something to do with the excess fuel and the cats on the exhaust. Next I reved it 3 to 4 times to like 5K, when a warning light came on showing Traction a triangle with a car weaving out of control.
I turned the car off and it was gone until the dealership had to clear it out of the memory, but you could recreate it anytime. The tried everything and could not explain it. The district service manager gave it his best shot, with the same result. They first tried to give me the old " That's normal", but after me questioning that logic on a brand new sports car, they gave in.
They flew in the regional service manager and a japanese engineer, who worked on it for 3 days. When I came to pick it up, they said it was fixed and can't be recreated.
This is after putting 200 miles on my 800 mile car and another mechanic scratching my entire rocker panel up (I mean deep chunks, from metal boot loops. hanging out the door.). I get in my car and recreate the warning light in my driveway and bring it right back.
After some negotiating with the mitigation department, they agree to replace it with a new one. After more negotiating they agree to get me a new black one with aero kit and mud flaps in addition to the original SSS package.
I finally received my new car last week. it came straight of the truck with 13 miles on it, my old one had 32 miles. I now have 250 miles on it and thought, better not try that revving for my own sanity. But when the mediation guy called me to check on the new car, I had to try it. It does the same thing as the old one?!?
Now I don't want a new one, but I can't imagine they would replace a car, without trying it on another car to see if it does it.
What do you guys think? I am coming from a 95 Z-28 and 94 Cobra and know less about turbo's and AWD cars. Please comment!!!
P.S. The new car has not been flashed yet by the dealership.

Well i have launch my car only once, and i rev to like 4500 rpm and held for maybe half a second till i let the clutch go, and i didn't see the warning you are talking about. Now the engineer from Japan, did you actually see him at the dealer working on your other vehicle or they told you that that's what happen? Sounds very add to fly an engineer from Japan for something like this.
Yeah I saw both guys with my car on two days in a row. Its a small dealership and I know all due to the long time my car had been there. He spoke bad english and seemed to know more than the regional manager. I don't think they flew him in from Japan. I think he is on like a 6 months assignment here for training of U.S. mechanics.
Just a guess, but he was already here I think. Cali probably.
You have to rev to 4,500 thre to five times, let the needle go all the way down in between. or give it two quick ones in between. Play around with it unless you better off not knowing.

What you have never revved up your car a couple of times in a row? Never?
I only care, because my new car just threw a warning light after revving it a few times in the driveway, which now requires the mechanic to clear the Computer.
I won't do it again, but I am curious to what it could be.
May be altitude (+6,000 ft) and lack of oxigen around the sensor or maybe the vibration causes a sensor to misread? It should not do that though and turn my S-AWD off?

But the car drives fine, right? It sounds like an idle code issue like the P1320, but a little bit different. I don't understand why this was such a big deal, or why they gave you a new car for that matter. I've never tried to do what you are talking about, but if I do it probably will show a check engine light like what you are seeing. The X's have computer bugs and tranny issues, but the car as a whole is pretty solid so it's not really a big deal. I'm contemplating trading mine in on an 09 when they come out if the major bugs and tranny issues have been resolved, but it all depends on what is or is not fixed and how much they offer me for mine. I look at it this way though; there really isn't that much wrong with the car aside from the rough shifting so there's not too much to get worked up over. It's a great car, but it's not a perfect car. First year cars never are. A lesson that I've had to learn as well.

I think it is warning light for a reason=stop revving the engine! it is turbocharged and not N/A. I think you just want to break it and replaced with a new one. My call is it is normal-heard it here first!
wow that sucks ***! I don;t see why revving your engine a to 4.5k a few times would do that. Especially when you can rev it to 5.5k (2 step) and launch it with no problems. It must be the high altitude. Plus if it is a new x again it should have all the current flashes done to it. Good luck and if it drives find I wouldn't worry about it unitl it is effecting the performance of the car.
