Honestly, Revolution86's explanation makes the most sense from all the posts i read... other than that, then the TSB for the idle issue would explain the other symptom.... end thread??

Wow is evom full of X protectionist haters now? some of you sound like the "it's supposed to do that and it's your fault" warranty-denying mitsu district managers. this car is controlled by a lot of mechatronics (hardware + software). with the software side comes bugs, especially at the integration level between 2 or more systems. the condition which produced/produces this error is obviously a boundary condition not tested during development. it is not normally possible to even get a 10% use-case coverage during testing, so there is no such thing as a bug-free non-trivial system. the OP simply discovered a bug, which appears to be benign, but could possibly be a fatal flaw under different circumstances (such as heel-toe work when free-revving around that same rpm range is very common to match the speed of the engine to the transmission). if more people can reproduce this error and then report it through the dealer network, it will give the engineers more data points from which to produce a bug fix which can then be applied to everyone's car via a re-flash. the OP is doing a service to the evo community, and said many times he is happy with his purchase, but is just passing along this info to broaden the knowledge base. anyone discouraging such posts is doing a disservice to the community, ESPECIALLY when done in a childish and mocking manner.

So, what is the code thrown when this problem shows up? i wonder if it's the "partial throttle overboost" code. If that's the case, this problem can probably be solved by raising that limit on the ECU.

chriswolf81- You had a problem with the car and it is your right to have it fixed, get a new car, or have them just buy you out. I commend you on taking the appropriate actions. I apologize for the new members with 2008 join dates talking out of there **** on so many threads. Most seasoned members would know that free reving your car a few times will not damage anything. Its not like your pinned at redline.

Holy bs thread....damm. +1000000 on what you said. The guys car obvously has a problem. The retards saying that he is doing something wrong by reving his motor a little to hear the exhaust is one of the most rediculus things I have ever heard. Reving his motor to 4.5k a couple of times wont do a thing. Now if he was sitting there doing it over and over and over again i could understand..but not in his case. I am shocked at the responses that different people gave this guy. There is something wrong..no car should throw a traction light while free reving a couple of times..and to the iddiots who say..."well if it happend the 1st time...dont do it again" Is hands down the dumbest statement I have ever heard of. People if you dont know what your talking about....please dont post. It makes it harder for the people who are trying to learn something as well as the op. To the op...good luck man, dont listen to these nuckle heads on here telling you, that your doing something wrong...your not..there is a bug in your ecu somewhere, and by no means is it your fault.

+10000000000, reving what is supposed to be a "high performance" car to 4.5K shouldn't be a problem.

The X is on my shopping list, but if it can't handle a little reving in neutral - forget it! I'll go with good old natural aspiration, like a G35 or G8.

The return to idle slowly is an emissions thing. Many new cars do this.

The blinking light...maybe you turned on launch control or something? Or turned off traction control? That's what it sounds like...

My mechanic called in sick! Appointment tomorrow afternoon.

I will post the code then.

Thanks for the constructive replies. I am only getting the ECU cleared, so the code is gone and do the reflash. They won't try to repair, since they have given up.

I think it is a normal occurance, which most likely would occur in all stock evo's under the same condition. I'm sure a tune could fix this problem permanently.

For my part, I'm never revving it like that again. I don't drag-launch the car, so I guess there is no reason to rev higher than 2.5-3K. (for quick starts.)

Some of you guys are retarded. It doesn't friggin matter that he was revving the engine up, he could bounce the damn thing off the limiter and it wouldn't matter. The cars already broken in by 250 miles anyways. You all sound dumb criticizing something thats nearly irrelevant.

The issue lies in that the car shouldn't being throwing lights from a simple rev..
