Evo X start up problem =\

well it only happened to me 4 times in 5 months

its usually in the morning when i first want to start up the car to warm it up. it starts cranking but it takes for ever so i let go, then i crank it again then it starts up. I took it to but they tried to see what was wrong, but nothing showed in the computer when they hooked it up to it. they try to duplicate the situation but the car starts up normal once it starts up.

so does this happen to anyone else? car not starting up until like the second time you try to?

this happened to me when i first got it, 2 weeks after that it happened, later on about 1 month later it happened again, and now yesterday morning.

Edit: I have F.A.S.T Key

Used to happen to me in my Civic all the time. It's the fuel pump or rather that the engine is not getting enough fuel to turn over. All you need to do it turn the ignition on once w/o cranking, wait 3 secs then turn it over to crank and u'll be good. It's no biggie, ppl are so spoiled with this single turn-key starts now-a-days. Think how it used to be before fuel injection lol.

A lot of the early shipments came over with fouled plugs due to the fact that the cars were started over and over and run for less than five minutes at a time. Basically, the cylinders never achieved operating temperature to fully combust the fuel. Consequently, there's a lot of build up on the plugs.

I'd pull a plug out and check it. There may be a silent recall on it, so I'd explain the situation to your dealership - hopefully they'll replace the plugs free of charge - they should be familiar with the problem you're describing.

Let us know what happens.

My Evo did this. It was very intermittent, but the car ran like a champ tuned and had no high rpm cut out. It wasn't fouled plugs in my case. It happened about 5-6 times in the half year I owned it.

The new Direct injection cars are worse (my GTI). You can hear the pump clicking on startup and it takes a few tries to get it going on cold startup.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, though. If it's taking you minutes to get it started, that's a whole different story...

there is some sort of safety regulation w/ fuel that requires it to return to the fuel tank so that the fuel line does not stay pressurized when not in use. If you try to start it instantly (after it sits for a while, like overnight) it takes a few addl' cranks to prime the line before it fires. Just turn the key to on, just before it cranks, to prime the line first, then start the car.

I have that problem too. We may have to bring this to the dealership. Scares me a little though.

this sounds exactly like the starting problem on the new lancers. Was do to moisture build up in one of the sensors on the TB I believe, but I can't be sure as I never had mine fixed under TSB. You may checkout the lancer forums and see if they have a TSB and part number for the failed part....it could very well be the same as the X. Remedy to this problem was just as yours, just turn the key off and crank again.

this happened to me once (I've had the car for over 2 months). I just ignored it & it hasn't happened since. I have an MR w/fast key, obviously... I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to happen at least once a week.
