Anyone regret getting a X ?
My only regret is not thinking it about the warranty issues with Mitsubishi. Because it seens that you cannot drive this car pretty much and your warranty will be denied from the stories you hear here. I love the car, but if i had to do it again i might go with the STI just because of the manufacturer and dealer support. Good luck on whatever you choose to do.
Also see if they let you test drive it, the first time i drove it, it was very akward because of the LOW sitting position. And i do mean low. I didn't test drove mine, just wrote the check and drove home.
P.S. I am 5'9" and i think is low, lol.

If your a true car enthusiast, then I can't see how you could regret owning this car. The car has actually spoiled me. Now I expect every car to handle and accelerate like my evo. My buddy has a WRX and we were doing some spirited driving through some twisties. I noticed him really far behind me. When we got back to my house I asked him why he was driving like a grandma. He said to me he was pushing his car hard or what he felt was beyond the cars limit (he actually thinks he may have broke something in his suspension). I gave him a confused look because I felt like I was barely pushing my car, it just felt so in control and well mannered. WOW, anyways long story short...I love this car and do not regret a thing.
I had a period of insecurity about my evoX purchase for awhile due to BMW's having their way with me in acceleration contests here and there, but there are a few upsides.
1) handling
2) handling
3) handling
the brakes aren't bad either, the car is somewhat comfortable and easy to drive too. Basically, the lack of power is the only complaint. There are easy mods, and I'm still waiting for the best tuning solution to present itself, but a 350 hp(crank) evox would be just about right for everything except drag racing.
I kept having buyer's remorse thinking I could have waited for the X to become cheaper at some dealers like it has and/or to have just gotten into a 135i (wasn't out when I bought the evo)...whatever, I solved the power problem in a slightly unconventional way...

I'm a potential buyer for either a new X MR or a 335xi (need the awd for the winters) and there are quite a few positives in the BMW category.
1. It's a BMW. Compare that to the boy-racer image that the Evolution will always have (unless they stop putting the ungodly wing on all cars as standard) and it's a clear win for the bimmer.
2. I'd much rather deal with BMW than Mitsu on the issue of after sales service, support, and warranty. I've had nothing but headaches dealing with Satan and their draconian viewpoints on car modifications and maintenance issues.
3. The fit and finish of the BMW is _light years_ ahead of the Evo. With the price increase on the new X's, I don't see how anyone in their right mind wouldn't view the BMW as a bargain for performance and luxury considering that everyone is agreed (as I am) that the Evo has stellar performance for its price, even with the continual price creep. I really struggle to see how people are satisfied with the Evo's new 'upgraded' interior. It still feels cheap and flimsy compared to the BMW, where everything screams quality.
4. I can walk into any BMW dealership and take out a 335i, 335xi and drive it around for a bit to get a feel for the car. The Mitsubishi dealership I went to has a very special place in their heart for the Evo and though they assured me that they would let me drive it, I hate being treated like a freewheeling stunter when I walk on the lot. I understand that these salesmen are used to 19 year olds trying to get joyrides, but they need to recognize the difference between a qualified buyer and poser.
I could go on and on, but I've got other things to do....
Glad you guys like your X's. I'll be interested to see just how deeply Mitsu does their financing cuts and so forth. Especially considering that BMW was doing 0.9% on all 3-series for the month of August. Just another case where Mitsu is behind the curve I guess.
I had the same thought about the 335i. Wife and I actually owned a 328i a few years back. Nice car. My problem with BMW is it costs too damn much after the fact. There is no nickle and dimes. I've seen the new beemer. Its nice, and safe, and a known thing. I wanted something fun, exciting, and different.
I bought the X because to me it looks a lot cooler, its unique, and you don't see them everywhere. You can park in any parking lot here in Texas and there will be a BMW sitting somewhere. Or a Lexus. Drive down the highway and the IS250's and IS350's are overwhelming. Occasional Audis, Benz....its all been done.
I wanted something faster than almost all of them, something more practical than a corvette (4 doors), something cool and cheap to mod. You cannot beat the Evo X. The aftermarket rulez over most other brands. The horsepower gains per dollar cannot be beat. They may suck stock but for a couple of grand you can add 100 hp and 100 TQ. That is where I stop, but the GSR's can keep on going up until the limits of the 4B11T are reached.
Either way, the Beemer is better built but the X is way different.

no regrets here myself. i think the reasons anybody would regret buying it is if they went in too hastily and if they are having those weird problems that i have been reading here and the dealerships not offering any sort of relief.
I am not. Previous was 90 GSX (11.9@117), 91 GVR4 stock (still operate), 3 prior DSM's, and an IS350....oh...and a 82? dodge d50 truck(still operate)
I am far from spoiled, if that's what your getting at

It is interesting to see all the mentions of BMW in this thread.
My experience at the BMW dealership was just so much nicer. Like someone else said, I was treated with respect and courtesy and there was no attempt to pre-screen me as a qualified buyer before test driving. I did not drive the 335 yet, but just sitting in the car it really makes me wonder how smart it would be to buy an Evo when I could lease a loaded 335 Coupe for about $100 less a month. I know the 335 won't be as fun a car to drive as the X but the quality of the vehicles fit and finish are just on ENTIRELY two different levels.
The crap interior of the VIII never bothered me because it was functional...and it was a $28k car. Mitsu wants $40k for an MR and the interior only received a modest upgrade. I don't expect Evo interiors to be nice...but then again, I don't expect Evo prices to ever get above the mid $30k's.
In other words, a SSS GSR is really the sweet spot for this car. The MR is just simply too much for too little.

There is one downside to this car and that is visibility. The side mirrors coupled with A pillars, containing air bags, signficantly obstruct side view when turning. So you have to see the position of the curb prior to the turn and estimate where it is at the turn because you just cannot see it. I know this is somewhat of a furnction of how long your torso is but for me, those mirrors have to go! Other than that, no regrets; the X is a great car for the $$- you can't go wrong!

The seat also seems a bit low to me.
Love the way it handles so far even though I haven't pushed it too far yet as I'm still breaking it in, but it seems much slower than my old wagon.

I'm a first time Mitsu owner, my last 2 cars were a 1991 Skyline GTR and an 2006 WRX wagon with an 18G and coil overs.
Thanks everyone for the responses. glad that I started this thread.
Beside the a-pillar blind spot + useless warrantee, what else should i look out for?
Will there ever be a 6speed manual gearbox? call me old fashion... but i like to do the shifting... even if the SST is quicker....
