Auto-x tire pressure

Well today was my first test and tune, around 80 degrees F. I started out with my tires at 41 lbs in the front and 43 in the back. I gradually moved down to 37 all around, and ended up with satisfactory grip with 38 in the front and 39 in the rear. Does anyone else have any tire setup experience with their X at different tire pressures they felt comfortable with? I'm just looking to hear other perspectives so I can try a couple things out in tomorrow's morning runs. Let me know what you guys think.

PS - I'm not that big a fan of the Yok's so far, but that will all end next year when I get a chance to put R-comps on for the new season.

I was running 35 all around, only had one test and tune day with the X so I will give your numbers a shot next time. Also I was wondering how much faster are you running with the traction control off, compared to leaving it on. I think I was picking up 1.5 to 2 sec faster with it off.

I didn't try with my traction control on. I've only made that mistake once when I had the audi and I literally stopped in the middle of my run out of frustration for accidentally leaving it on.

I can tell you that when I was at 41 front / 43 rear in the X, I went for one hell of a ride. I came out of the 4th gate in 3rd gear and had one of those "oh ****" moments where the tail just floated around and I ended up backwards. It was way too much pressure. Just goes to show the difference between cars, the audi loved being around 40-41.

I've run everywhere from 50 to 32 depending on the surface and heat outside (50 was on a very rough surface that was very hot and it was turning the tires into jello).

This weekend, on an asphalt surface, I started at 41/41 and ended up around 37/37. I likely could have gone lower.

There's a video floating around, where coming off I say something about the car being loose and I needed to let some air out. Did I? No. Next run I was 4 wheel drifting around some corners!

FYI: 6k miles and I'm shopping for replacement tires. If you push the stockers you will burn them up pretty quickly.

Seems the sweet spot is 35-40 PSI depending on how hard you push the car, little more air in the rears if you want the car to have more oversteer. For me the ASC (Active Stability Control) left on was a nightmare where power would cut for several seconds if I overdrove a corner. The problem was I wanted to induce some wheel spin at low RPM's in 2nd gear before exiting the corner and it would just bog down for several seconds.

Turning ASC with one press was a good compromise as the power cut was turned off but the brake assist was still there and you could use the gas pedal again. Doing the 5 second push of the ASC button turning it all off was a little more of a handfull at times but if I had more runs to get used to it the car would likely be fastest on that setting. Didn't hit any cones all day so I wasn't too aggressive out there but learned quite a bit of how the car handles at the limits.
