One other thing to consider is storage and back seat. You can fit 4-5 adults in the X without an issue and you can actually use the trunk.

On the 996 or 997 the rear seats are a joke and the boot is horribly small. No golf clubs for you!

Buying a used car carries risk. You don’t know who owned the car before you and how the car was used or abused. Was it a rich kid with no mechanical sympathy or a mature owner who took care of it? Porches are not exactly bought for just taking the kids to school. I tell you, after reading many posts on this site I will NEVER buy a used Evo.

Here are the pics of what they would look like. Both would have warranty (porsche for 2yrs/100K - Porsche Certified). THe porsche is an '03 Manual with brown interior. DOES anyone know about how long that 996 engine will run?? it has 35K miles now... More so than the Evo's engine??

I sold my 993 to get an EVOX for my wife. Turned in her Jetta lease and drive my Esprit for when I need a car. I work at home thank goodness. Now, If I was to give a very non biased opinion, again having owned a pristine 97 993 with total racing suspension, you name it against and EVOX, I wish I would go back to the 993. But, I can't, I have 2 little girls and they can't fit safely in the carrera.

I would never buy a 996 due to its bad rep in the porsche community. So, in the end, the evox is great but it aint no status symbol, if that is what you are after. But for performance, it will out run a 993 and 996 on a track. Just get what you want because you are probably just like me. Never will sell my esprit, but when and if my wife gets a job, I will get an STI for myself. The wife will drive the EVOX and I am jealous but I don't want to buy 2 of them. It will just get boring after that. Get a GSR and mod it so you can grin even more! MR to me is just a little to complicated and it performance on tracks, 1/4 and all speaks for itself.

One thing to remember is the 996 TT engine is known to last a mere 80k miles, to replace it, well, maybe you should be prepared in another life!

GEt the EVOx and disregard all comments from others, I kick myself in the pants for selling my evo8 since I looked like a kid in it. But, I should have kept it. Oh well...

I've owned numerous 911s, including a C4, and I would (and did) go with an Evo X GSR.

Porsches are way too expensive to maintain compared to the Evo

Thanks for the advice. If I go for a 997 C4s the amount goes up significantly...

2006 Carrera 4S (997 new body style) = $70K w/4yr warranty (I'll have no extra funds for fun with this but can barely do it...)

2003/4 Carrera 4S (996) = $40K-$50K w/2yr warranty (Will be okay financially)

2008 EVO MR = $38K w/3 yr warranty (Will be just fine financially)

i never been impressed by regular Porsche.
And that is one of them. I would go with the brand new car instead the fake status.
Obviusly if you cant afford or want to afford the real Porsche or the new one.It will be just a problem for you.

Get a X GSR fully loaded and call it a day .
