Long roadtrips in the MR

Has anyone gone on a fairly long road trip in their MR? I'm thinking of a journey of 3 to 4 hours non-stop (except maybe for gas) from point A to point B. I've heard about the MR's notorious overheating condition, and was wondering if this might be an issue.

I ran several such long trips in Southern Arizona to Southern California in July and August. Overheat? No way dude - not even close.

The black interior in sunshine is more of a problem.

Drove my MR from Ottawa to New York a touch over 7hrs of driving. Seats were very comfortable for both me and my girlfriend. No overheating problems

The only problems was me resisting to punch on the gas, but that's what cruise control is for

overheating for the tranny maybe - if you're ROADRACING for 3-4 hours!

Dude, these cars are rally proven, commuting in them well hardly bring up any issues.

It's the folks on here that drag and road race them at the extreme limits that require the additional upgrades (as expected when you think about it, since it's rare that an OEM can give you a car that can handle road racing and dragging as rough as the EvoM crew gets). . .

I'm pretty sure the overheating issue is regarding hard driving, like which would be done on a road course.

The issue is not the "MR" over heating but the tranny due to the amount of up-shifting/down-shifting that is required in road racing.

So no driving your car from point a to point b like a respectful person the tranny will be quite alright.

I drove my MR for six hours throughout Colorado stopping only for gas and a quick bite to eat... fort collins -> denver -> conifer -> boulder -> rmnp -> estes park -> fort collins. Absolutely no overheating and I was running sport mode for all of the mountain passes.

The only problem is the crappppppy gas mileage, "about 24-26mpg" other than that the car was a great ride for the trips i've made in it. 2 of which were about 6 hours and one which was about 8 hours. Very comfy to travel in.

To you, 24-26mpg is "crappy"? Maybe for a Civic or something else that's primary purpose is to get great mileage, but something with the performance of the Evo, I would say that's pretty good mileage.

I drove my MR for several hours straight (from SoCal to Idaho). It took about 17 hours over 2 days. Absolutely no issues & that was during break in period.

I travelled from Vancover to Saskatoon. It was an 1800km trip about 20 hour drive. Lots of mountian curvy roads. Only stop for food, gas and had a couple hours of rest. My opinion: Great supportive seats. Pretty quiet interior. Headlight are amazing! Great audio.
I would not worry about overheating. There is plenty of air flow on the tranny cooler at highway speed. Beaware of the small gas tank! If you have half a tank or less, go fill up. That last half of gas does not last long.
