Couple of Cold Problems, need input.

It's starting to get cold up here in MN and my EVO is doing some weird stuff.

Oh btw I always warm my car up for atleast 10 min before I start driving.

first thing, I have the SSS package and when the **** knob is cold it spins and then as my hand warms it up it stops spinning. WTF? It's a pain in the *** because i have to make sure the shift knob is in the right position before it warms up.

#2 sometimes my car in the morning after i warm it up and start driving, it jitters.. feels like a threw a wheel weight, then it just stops after a bit, it's got to be the motor or tranny jittering, I just got this car so if it's a problem I want to bring it to the stealership before I start modding it. I don't know if they just do that when their not completely warmed or have been sitting for a night, and it doesn't always do it.

Any similar experiences with this or should I bring it in to the dealership and raise some hell?

First off, "raising hell" at the "stealership" will get you exactly the response you expect.

I would take it down to the dealership and explain nicely the issues.

The SSS package shift nob is the same as the non SSS. Do you have the interior sport package? That knob is different.

Well you're doing the right thing by warming it up before driving in the frigid weather. If you're under the 12k mark then take it into the dealer for and adjustment if you think something is wrong. Don't go in and "raise hell" mind you, just explain to them the problems and take it from there.

which dealer? Let me know-I work as a lender with most of them in MN-as for the tires-if you still have the winters on (hello this morning traffic sucked on 94.....) its flat spots from sitting over night. I would get it too. Switch out to cheapy rims and true winter rubber (not all season, I tried that think AWD would save me, it didnt).
The knob...it could be the plastic insert that tightens as you spin is loose/split. Take it off, inspect it and see if it needs replacing. Still need to hook up with you and check out the new ride!

Ah! (lightbulb as well).

The stock yokos are really soft... do you think an overnight in the cold would flatspot them?

That's amazing and yet another reason to not live north of Texas

Your car comes with a 12,000k adjustment warranty. I'm using mine this weekend to get the car aligned. If something is messed up in your Evo (i.e. your car jitters) it will be covered under this and hence less screaming for you.

yeah...even in Sept here in MN I would get them for about the first 20 min of driving (then after 8 hours at work, a little left over).
Walser=boo. Service there sucks my ***** (but we cant change that now). Def get the winters (I just got a set of Yoko W.Drive-like them so far). I'll shoot you a PM with my contact info-I'm just down 61 in Cottage Grove-and I'm in Stillwater every week.
Hit up the local evo forum (search MN evo....it'll pop up-I'm rockjock over there-great bunch of guys!).

If you have the stock yokos and the temps are below freezing, that is almost definitely your thumping problem, especially since it goes away as they warm up. I assume there is no snow where you live yet... Those yokos will be terrifying in the snow, trust me. Also, that's another thing that can cause thumping exactly as you described, I got a bunch of snow packed into the inside of the 911s wheels one year (dunno how, the Evo never got snow inside the wheels, but anyway) and it drove HORRIBLY and was noisy and a PITA. I freaked because it felt like a broken wheel "linkage" (all the studs sheered, which I've felt twice on two different cars) not just like an unbalanced wheel, turned out the passenger front wheel just had an uneven amount of probably like 10 lbs of ice and snow built up in it. Cracked me up when I pulled over and saw what the actual problem was. Damn Utah winters!

But yeah, if you're backing out of a driveway with snow on it, or doing anything else that would get snow inside the wheels before driving at normal speeds, that would definitely cause it too.

As for the shift knob, take it to the dealer, it shouldn't be unscrewing that easily, I've never heard of a knob unscrewing without a bit of force other than a faulty knob (or one that doesn't screw down all the way for whatever reason).
