Windshield

I was driving down 57 A Friday night (going to work mind you) and a gravel truck passed me going in the opposite direction, I heard a really loud noise and my windshield instantly started cracking! I called my insurance and I have a 1000 dollar deductible; has anyone had their replaced yet (EVO X)? I'm afraid to find out what this will cost, not to mention I'm footsteps from being laid off! The gravel pit I pass everyday should be the ones at fault, but there's no why they'll live up to it. Winter tires and now glass, ahh.

I would of pulled over and called the police. Then gotten a copy of the police report and the bill to replace the windsheild and sent it certified mail to the gravel pit company. Trust me they would of paid.

It's around $300, maybe as much as $350 for oem glass. I thought I was going to need a replacement at one point & looked into it. Thankfully I did not. But, I've already had 3 nicks on my windshield w/in 3 or 4 months of owning this car. Never had chips in my previous car that I've had for 5 years. G/L & make sure to get oem glass!

Windsheild in the X is thinner than normal to save weight. Saw where someone else replaced it with the heavier Lancer GTS one.

interesting,

i was on the 57 as well but in california going to work

and a frigin truck towing rocks started spilling rocks and i mean quite a lot bunch of cars swerved away and one hit my windshield and BAM crack 1st month I had the evox, got it replaced for 240 cash$

good news again though another crack but on my way right corner so I am hoping it wont move around so I wont have to replace it.

this is riduclous.

I called chp and they said you can "find the company" and try going through insurance but its not worth it. also there happened to be over 60 berrar trucking companies and half of them are outo f business haha.

call around local windshield shops and offer cash, they shouldnt go over 300$

That's not for real OEM. That's aftermarket.

And to the OP i had to replace mine, but i have a 500 deductible, if i remember correctly it was around $700 for a Factory Windshield installed by Safelite. OEM/aftermarket glass is about $400 installed i was going to get it, but for a bit more i decided to pay deductible and get Mitsu parts.

Mine started cracking today, I found the smallest chip spot where a rock had hit. The chip spot was the size of the tip of a pencil maybe 1/4 mm size. I can't hardly believe it.

Get a lancer windshield. They weigh a little bit more but they're thicker.

I had a rock hit my windshield on the way to work one morning. Insurance had the crack repaired for free. It would have cost me $100 to replace the windshield, but I assumed it will only happen again, so I opted for a repair. I noticed the crack started spreading recently, so I guess I'll have to get the repair guy back to fix it again.

its kinda funny how they try and safe weight on the X but its still to heavy. IMo they could have done a better job, but what do i know. imagine if they didnt care about weight

I had mine replaced by Safelite IIRC. It was non-OEM glass and it cost ~$300 installed, although I got a discount for the job taking two days (I think it was about $350 or so). Just make sure they order the little rubber border that goes around the glass. Normally I guess their computer system flags cars as requiring extra parts, but the Evo didn't have that noted yet and they had to order it and come back the next day in my case. They said cars that are really new sometimes don't have that stuff noted yet. And I have no idea if they installed a special Evo windshield or a basic Lancer one (not that I give a crap about the <5lbs I might have gained).

you could always find another gravel truck and just get its number and say they kicked a rock up.

Any safelite certified glass shop will save you hundreds and every one we've used has done good work.
