I see many threads like this every year around this time. You're not the first and you wont be the last. People should change to their snow or all season tires BEFORE theres any hint of freezing weather.

Not really, maybe compared to Alaska, but definitely not to my knowledge/experience. It is no where near anything like Cali. The plug a thing in to the OBDII port, it says "Car does not pollute by ___ much" then for inspections they check to make sure everything is working normal and check the darkness of the tint. Only thing I would say they are even close to strict on is the level of darkness on the tint.

My Evo passed emissions without a cat. Pollution equal to some of the highest polluting cars that do pass (meaning right on the edge) but it still passed.

Plus there are PLENTY of ways around the emissions/inspection things, and I've never heard of someone getting pulled over for a random check of their ability to pass E/I. Only people with the loudest of exhausts or really dark front tint (our fronts can only be 45%, so it's easy to spot someone with 5%) ever seem to get harassed here.

Man, that sucks. I haven't picked out my all season tires yet, but I'm sure gonna leave the X in the garage and take the SUV should the weather turn before I get to it, thanks OP!

Guess I learn my lesson because I hear horror stories about summer tires on snow but I never experienced it before. I guess I was too stubborn and though people didn't have the skills to use summer tires in winter. Oh how I was so wrong to even try it one day before I had my All Season's installed. But guess what, I'm a total dumbazz. Life lesson learn for future cars.

The Yokohama G20 is the solution, providing rally proven grip.

Ice is Ice and no matter the tire, you will slide. If it was just snow then, sorry to hear for your loss.

sorry to hear that man it really sucks, seems to always happen so close to your destination...i go to school in upstate NY and we see the first snow in Oct. my evo is lowered and riding on RE-01r's currently. we have gotten some decent snow of late, so unfortunately my baby is rendered useless in the garage. I can't afford snow tires at the moment so my best bet is NOT driving it. It kills me, especially after such a great fall race season, but in the end, i want to stay on the road, not in a ditch. gl with the repairs my man
