I thought it was some kind of unwritten rule that you had to have a beater as your first car haha

haha yeah thats what i'm saying! my first car was a 6 year old mazda protege with 80000 miles on it. I had to find my own car that i could make my own payments on with a 7 dollar an hour job. I'm not saying it should always be like that, but like dude said, a car that does 0-60 that fast could never be a good starter car.

My first car was a 63 Volkswagen Bug(halfway through the restoration process), I loved driving that car despite the heater going full blast all the time(in summer no less) and the sloppy gearbox. Crashed it when I lost the brakes on it while driving and smashing into the back of a 3/4 Ford pickup, a few scratches for him and a total loss for me.

I wonder if this poll is more reflectiv of the age range of Evo drivers or of the age range of Evo drivers who participate on internet forums.

I'd be surprised if the percentage of ~30-35 + people who own the X and are members of evom is anywhere near close the the percentage of people under 30 who own an x and are on evom.

I mean, lets say that in a hypothetical situation there is an perfectly even distribution of Xs for every age range. As in the number of 20 year olds who own an X is the same as the number of 60 year olds. I would still expect this pole to look the same.

Heh, well lets put it this way...

I've been in the car "tuning" crowd for longer than the 20 year olds on here have been alive. I think I can safely say that most of the guys I grew up modifying cars with have moved on to other "hobbies"...

Anyhow, I definitely get a lot of looks driving my Evo as a middle-aged and severely balding father of four. But I'm definitely into it...I'll be the first guy to fling another Evo a "deuce" or flip-off someone who's being a "douche". It's just that small percentage of men like myself never grow up. I also love those superbird wings on our Evos.

I'm also a middle-aged, balding Evo pilot. It's often difficult to travel a single mile without receiving a thumbs-up from another motorist, or seeing pedestrians turn their heads as the car goes by. The cops pull up next to me, look over and see my shiny dome, the child booster seats in the back, and simply drive off. Besides paying lower insurance rates, that's the single biggest benefit of being an older high-performance enthusiast.

It's just that small percentage of men like myself never grow up.
Hell, I've loved automobiles ever since I can remember. My earliest childhood memories revolve around motoring. As such, I never understood the poseur position that dictates automotive preferences that are based on factors excluding actual performance.

I understand fully and I'm willing to bet that most folks on these forums won't be around in 10 years, as the applicable, fashion-driven aspects of automobilia wear-off.

Not true. I restored a 1967 Camaro when i was 16 and that was my first car. Bought it from my dad in **** condition for 3k. Didnt run. I did everything except the paint. Never wrecked it and drove it everyday. Its different when you had to "build" the car. Im sure i would have been less careful if my parents woulda just dropped it in my lap. So i guess i see what your saying. But dont assume EVERYONE wrecks there first car.
