Not too surprising.
Two easy explanations with knowing nothing about him:

1.)18 joined the military, did oversea's tour, banked all the cash and spent nearly nothing, 4 years of income with cost of living being low while with the military and *poof* enough money to buy an Evo.

2.) Went to college @18, 4 years of college, got a degree at 22, got a job paying 65-80k/yr. Small downpayment, big monthly payments.

I know what you're thinking, I'm 32, work in IT and have a payment of $550/mo still after putting 7k down. But spent my other funds on things like a house and wife (she's expensive ). Sometimes we forget it's possible to live without everything else.

Could be, and you're right, if one is not saddled with a mortgage payment, or high rent and other living expenses--and a family--that could free up a lot of money. And kids today are paid a heck of a lot more than they were a generation ago (but watch for the coming cuts because many salaries are inflated). When I was 22 I was into my second enlistment in the military. I bought a 1981 Ford Mustang base model from the BX concession where I was stationed overseas, and picked it up in Las Vegas. I think the MSRP then was around $5K to $6K. That was still a big purchase for me, and I had to take out a loan for it. Was married and had a young child, so it was hard making the payments, along with rent, utilities, food, etc.

I actually worked the oil field in northern Alberta and I was able to put away a nice chunk of change before moving on and becoming a carpenter.

its actually not that hard you guys, i make 50k a year and i pay $650 a month for my 2013 gsr 1100 for rent and 120 for insurance, so thats 1870 a month when i take home 2850, leaves alot left over plus fiance...bam grocery shopper and electricity payer. $100 a week in gas, so -$400 and then $100 for verizonwireless that leaves you $480 to do w/e with. eh?

The first one might be true. The second one prob not. I went to college at 18 got a 4 year degree in business management. Over the summer my last 3 years in college I was the General Manager of a business that gross 850-900 thousand in the 3 months it was open and could not find a job for 2 years. The job I did find after 2 year was a sales job at a food place so my income was barely $36000. I also had to pay for my own college which put me in the hole as well.
I do like the younger people on here that say their parents did not buy it for them but they traded in the car that there parents did buy them or still live with them. If I did not have to pay college or rent or any other bills at 18-19 I could have owned one at that age 2.

Just because your field didn't really have any jobs for you straight out of college, doesn't mean other fields don't. All of my engineering buddies either found a job, or are continuing onto graduate school.

You also aren't considering the fact that alot of people choose to attend state universities where they pay very little to attend as a resident. Also, scholarships and grants help out with the tuition.
