Thoughts on going from BMW 335i coupe to EVO X
reason i dont have a bmw is cause those things depreciate too fast. but with that said there is definitely a part of me that wishes i went for the 335. sometimes i sit in my car and wonder is all this noise/bumpiness worth that extra ounce of performance?
A sign of maturity, i feel it too sometimes, that's why it is tough to chose a car that will growth with you, kinda like having the same girlfriend as in highschool.
335 all day. Sorry I love my x but the 335's are faster stock for stock and you can't beat bmw's warranty. Just mod the hell out of it and it'll make you feel better about it.
You'd miss the better quality of the bmw's paint and interior to much. But I LOVE my x so don't get me wrong, I'm only saying keep the bm because you already have it.

I think it really depends on your driving personality. If you're the type to cruise most of time, take turns easy and just gun it in a straight line once in a while, stick to the 335. If you're the type to push it hard in the corners all the time, get the Evo, IMO.
I've driven both at length and they both have their merits but are completely different cars. I have a friend that has both (bought the X because he has a shop and needs it to promote his business) and he said that every time he hops into his X from his E90 335I he's amazed at the amount of road noise etc. that the X has compared to his 335I. In the end it depends on what you primarily do with each. Neither of the two are bad cars to own.
I sold my 2006 M3 for my 08 Evo so hopefully I can give you some good feedback.
1. Power - The Evo X makes less power than both the E46 M3 and the 335i in stock trim, but with some simple upgrades, that problem can be easily fixed. The stock Evo X ECU tune and the engine feels really rough. A good aftermarket ECU tune is a MUST on these cars.
2. Handling - The Evo X outhandles the E46 M3 and 335i hands down. There simply is no comparison. Keep in mind that I've been driving M3's for almost 10 years now with my 06 M3 having the "Competition Package" and my 97 M3 having some heavy suspension work done to it and they both aren't anywhere near the Evo stock. Go drive one, they really are that good.
3. Comfort - The BMW's are far more comfortable as daily drivers as expected. The Evo's aren't terrible though. I drive 72 miles each way to work and I have no compliants about the Evo (although the seats are a bit tight and do become uncomfortable after long trips).
4.) Transmission - The Evo X GSR needs a 6 speed. It is very buzzy on the highway after 65 mph. The Evo X has a shorter throw than the M3 and 335, but does grind shifting 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third. BMW transmissions are far smoother and don't make any grinding noises.

The 335 has dead, dead, dead, steering in comparison to the evo. The 335 does have a much nicer interior, better dealer service (but still not lexus level), and is a little more mature. Power/speed...look at all the numbers. For the intangible responsive handling/steering: the X is the winner in my book, your best bet is to drive one and see what you like. I found it the next best thing compared to Miata, Porsche, and MGs... Definitely call the dealer in advance...or they may not let you test drive.
For reliability...BMWs are not fun to own out of warranty. They really are not designed to last. I would take a 1988 Porsche for maintenance anyday over the 1988 m3...but that 1988 M3 is a sweet cocaine addiction and handles like nothing else.
