I am looking in getting an intake for my first mod and wanted to know which you guys think is the "best"? So I do a intake first or something else (ie tune)?

define 'best'. If by 'best', you mean cheapest, get a drop-in filter.

Get a tune for your first mod.

No sense in spending 200 on an intake for 15whp when $400 gets you 80whp.

yes sense in spending 200 on an intake for 15whp when $400 gets you 80whp. Because or else when you then spend $200 on and intake and other parts you'll need to then again spend $400 on another tune... lol

do your mods first then tune. Not to mention switching mods back to stock to keep your warranty is alot easier then reflashing the ecu.

+1

Depending who does the tune, sometimes they will do retunes for future upgrades cheaper or free

Edit: and with a cable flashing back to stock is easier then swapping parts. Does the cable work with Xs yet?

Another tune should only be $200 at most.

Although you can go opensource and retune for FREE.

And you can go to your dealer with a flash and not have your warranty void.

The reason I put best in '' is because best could be anything. ie if intake a produces 30whp and cost $300 but intake b produces 28whp and cost $150 then you could make an argument that a is better than b because of the gains, whereas someone could make the point the whp/$ is better on b therefore b is better. Basically what you personally feel is the best. If it was your car which would you get and why? Also should this be my first mod or is there something better? I want to start modding but the less invasive the better

edit: Or wait for one of the open source before I flash the ECU.

Rguy your so wrong in so many ways, First mod should not be a tune for the reason ddawg gave why spend 1 dollar more for a retune for future mods if you know your going a certain route. Get the parts first then do the tune. And yes some dealers might let some mods go without saying to much but I assure you if you have something wrong with the way your car is running and they see that your car has been flashed your up **** creek!!!

i would say the best would be AEM. first of the whole thing if enclose. not too restricted like the stock intake. i just dont like having the filter in the open, especially when mister copper is around the corner.

You're wrong in so many ways...

First, a tune is the cheapest, fastest, easiest way to unlock 70whp +. You can add parts first and go for a tune later with the parts, but whats the point of having a bunch of parts on the car if they arent going to work well because of your ****ty stock tune?

Get the tune and tell your tuner that you plan on adding "so and so" parts later and to leave plenty of room in the tune for them to be safe. Then go get a retune later to compensate for the parts. Or, just use opensource and tune yourself as you go.

And the dealer cant tell if you have a flash. Unless they go and romp on your car which they absolutely shouldnt be doing.
