Little help from GSR guys?

Going to buy an X this week for dual purpose: street & rallycross. Need to choose between MR and GSR.

GSR question is, at how low a speed can I exit a turn in second gear and not bog badly? Minimum corner speeds in local courses seem to be between 15 and 20 mph. I'll be running in second and don't want to downshift if I can help it.

But if I absolutely have to downshift at those speeds, I'll probably go with the MR.

Remember, we're talking dirt here, so I don't need huge power. But I don't want it flat on it's face either. I'd be very grateful if a couple of you GSR guys could do a little road test for me. Slow to 15-20 mph in second gear, and see if the car will accelerate decently from there without having to downshift.

a lot of the MR guys have had problems with the tranny overheating. Sounds like you plan on driving it pretty hard, so I would suggest you get the GSR. just my $0.2

Eventually you will probably could use the SST tranny more aggressively but right now there just isn't that much information on it much less parts. I'd give it like 6 months then maybe you'll see something to where you can make the SST more robust.

depend how good driver you are. No bashing or anything. Seriously

If you are not that great , then the MR will help you for sure. But you will be limited with power and seems to me you will always have to carry an extra weight vs the GSR.
The GSr will allow you more power and easier on the valet /i think/ if something go wrong with the trnny.
Also will be lighter then a MR. So if the shifting is not an issue for you then GSR.
If you conserned about it/i think that is why you asked/ then the MR is the car for you

Not rally guys, rallycross. Runs one, maybe two minutes max.

Supposedly the SST was iintended for track use...if it can't do two minutes, they have a real problem.

But no one has answered my Q yet. Will the GSR pull okay from 20mph in 2nd? Not asking for opinions. I hoped someone would just go try it.

Sometimes at a light I take off in 2nd gear. As for bogging in 2nd at 20mph will not be a problem!

Thumbs up

It will due just great at that speed because at 20mph you are around 3000rpm or so in second gear it won't be an issue. The GSR gearing is pretty short some may say but I find it almost perfect.

yeah second gear is extremely short, you shouldn't have any problems in the dirt with a 15-20 mph exit speed...
