Evo X ride quality/comfort

Wondering what the ride quality is like for an EVO X GSR compared to say a... an 06 BMW Z4 3.0Si w/ sport suspension (our current ride). My wife couldn't stand the roadster at first when it had the original run-flat tires... was really harsh. But after it was replaced with regular tires, the difference was like night and day. I also had a 03 Civic Si couple years back and it was not bad at all, even with the stiff suspension. How does the EVO X compare to them both in terms of ride comfort/harshness? I want to be sure it isn't punishing before purchasing one... don't want the wife to regret giving in to my wishes hehe.

Also, road and engine/exhaust noise at 75mph? That's my normal freeway cruising speed.

The tires are really loud after around 5k miles or so on them. There are some rattles from the stiff suspension. The engine is loud becase of the low gearing at 75 mph you are at like 3.0 - 3.5 rpm

The Si EP3 is close to 4K RPM at 80mph, but the engine wasn't that loud... only the exhaust cuz I had a custom one. Wish I could test drive an EVO X GSR, but I doubt the local dealership would let me do that, unless I put a deposit or something.

Any more feedback from those who've actually driven a Z4 or Si EP3?

just go talk to the guys at the dealership and tell em theres no way in hell youre gonna buy a car without driving it first. as long as you're cool with them they should be cool with you.

or just go to south coast mitsu and theyll let you mash on their tester...thats what i did

Your wife will not like the GSR much. It is very harsh. If you get an Evo MR or the bilsteins on a GSR it might be a little better.

I wouldn't say the GSR is harsh.

What does she want? Sounds like she is looking for a comfort car and you are trying to get a nice performance car out of it too - not that I blame you. If you are looking for comfort and quietness EVO's really aren't the best option. Usually comfort and performance are at odds with each other.

Is this a summer car replacement? Perhaps a boxster, or G37 convert?

It's going to be the 3rd car as my main DD to work. Wife has the Z4 as DD. We also have an SUV as our family vehicle. I've always wanted an EVO, and trying to justify it to her that we need a secondary transport for our baby (Z4 doesn't have a backseat lol) :-) She said, if we are buying a 3rd car, she wants something that she can also ride (or drive).

I don't mind a little harshness or the stiff suspension, as long as it's not bone-jarring whenever it hits a pothole or that you can feel every bit of uneveness on normal roads/freeway. The wife will be riding in it every now and then, so she must not "hate" the ride too.

It sounds like the MR would be right up your alley. If you plan on getting a fairly well equipted setup then the MR wont really be any more expensive and you will get a softer ride and the SST transmission. I guess it depends on how you feel about getting a semi-automatic and how much you plan on modding.
