most people dont drill they just use a good double sided adhesive tape

but then you have the wire or tube that connects the gauge to the proper area hanging out, right?

I drilled my gauge pod cup directly to the top of the steering column for now. That piece of plastic only 9.85 to replace so I wasn't to worried about it. the wires are not visible and makes for a cleaner look.

I just used the double-sided tape that came with the gauge. It's not some super adhesive tape but I'd rather it not be stuck on there too good since it's just a temporary fix for me. The firewall was drilled right at steering column and the wires run behind the steering wheel. There is maybe an inch of wire visible behind the gauge if you look for it, but you don't notice it otherwise.
