Picking up my new X tomorrow! Reflash question..

I asked the sales guy to have the updated reflashes done, but he told me that it should only be done if the car is throwing a code or if running badly in some way. I thought they all needed the updated flash? The service guys also told him that if the flash was done and wasn't needed, I would run the risk of blowing the motor... I have never heard of this from a factory reflash. Is this true? If not... what is? lol

just has a better A/F mixture(more lean), car runs slightly better with it. not having it will not hurt the motor.

Congrats. Where did you pick it up from? How much?

EDIT: To answer your question...it depends on the dealership. I told them I needed the flash and they just did it. I don't know why they would tell you that if it didn't "need it" it could possibly blow the motor. That's just not true. Typical dealership stupidity.

Thanks man... I got it from a local place here... wound up getting it for 32,200 OTD on just a base model though. There was a few places out of state that I could get it from, but with shipping and such it was only saving about 500.00.. unless I drove the car back, which with gas, food, staying a night or 2 somewhere just in the end wasn't worth it. I'm going to get some mud flaps and an AP when I get a little cash together and then leave it alone.

UPDATE: Ok guys I need some advice. I have my local dealer's price at 32,2 OTD for the Octane blue... OR there is a place out in the midwest willing to have one of their guys drive one of their GSR's to me ( about 700 mile trip ) and then fly him back and their price is 31,415 OTD for Rally Red. That equates to about 12.00 a month which seems like it's not much really, but I am getting married soon and every little bit saved helps, HOWEVER the car will have 700-800 miles on it when I get it... what do you all think?

I wouldn't trust a dealer to drive it 700 miles for me, I'd feel uncomfortable. Maybe the guy is going to eat Burger King in the car, I'd smell it forever. Or maybe he'll smoke in it, or really abuse it on the way there. If I'm gonna buy a NEW car, I'm not gonna let someone else I don't even know put the first ~1000 miles on it.

Get the car yourself..... even if you have to wait for it, it could be better to get exactly what you want, and put the miles on it yourself.

Is the other dealer in the same state as you? If not they are probably not quoting your states sales tax in their otd quote.
I would hope you know this though.

no, actually this price is including my sales tax here which is 6%.

They had offered to fly me out there, and give me the car with mud flaps for 31,2 OTD. I may ask for 30,900.00 OTD and buy my own mudi rally armor mud flaps... since it is going to cost me over 200.00 on the trip for gas and food, and possibly a room for the night.

The thing about the local place is that they had advertised a price once and given me a quote of 31,7 OTD then a week later claimed that it was a mistake in the pricing on the site and they added the 1,000 rebate that ONLY the lancers got.. so I was like.. well if you quote a price you are obligated to sell it for that price... then the lowest they would go was 32,2 OTD... so already i'm sort of pissed with them about that.

Congratulations bro.
I wouldnt do any re-flashes at the moment. Just drive it first. And if it throws a code. Then do it..

I'd just fly out. I flew out to Florida and drove my car back here. I would not trust someone else to drive it that far.
