i wish we had a 6th gear too. also if the price is within reach this is a mod i would be willing to do.

 

+1 same here. car is pretty good on gas even though it's a high rev'r!

 

I'm lucky to get that kinda MPG with having a 6th gear and less power...

 

I wish I had a 6spd too.
Thats what I miss about my 4g Eclipse, 32+mpg on the highway

 

i have zero idea how transmission works.... is the EvoX transmission housing big enough to install the 6th gears?? i just can't picture how a 5sp transmission have the extra room for more gears.

 

I suppose the 6 speed prototype is replacement of the entire transmission.

 

HKS has been working on this thing for a long time, good to see them putting it to use and maybe bringing it over to the states. I would be in the market for one.

It could be, but most likely it will be just the gears. Either they somehow manage to get one more inside, or replace all of them, with the extra gear being in the new set. Pretty much, they make the 5 other gears a bit thinner to make room for the 6th. The only problem with that it reduces the endurance/strenth of the gear. Prime example the evo 9, the 6 speed is know to brake more than the 5 speed just because of that. You can't just get something for nothing, there will always be a sacrafice. But it is HKS, and they are runing on their track car.

 

i hope HKS will look into upgrading the SST soon.....stronger clutches or even 7 speed!!..lol

 

So if its a new gearing pattern how much do you guys think this would run this is somthing i would def look into. I had driving on the highway at 4000rpms for a long time. Cant be to good for the engine. Rather be crusin at 300 at 80mph plus it would be a lot quieter.

 

Well is HKS, that alone cost money. And the labor will also be a pretty penny. I doubt most day to day people will be buying this. Most likely gear towards racers and race teams. Yes you can buy, but does it make economical sense. The money you save on gas, might not be enough to upset the money spent on it.

 

I would like a 6-speed along with the rest of you guys, but you guys are WAY to excited this early in the game. Here's what we don't know:

1. Is it a dogbox tranny (no syncro's)
2. Is it straight cut gears (more noise)
3. Does it have a matching final drive ratio
4. is it designed to be used with a custom xfer case and/or rear diff.

We need more info...Price is the least of my concerns right NOW.

 

i don't think the gas money i could save from the 6th gear would cover the cost the the HKS gearbox. LOL!!

 

Out of curiosity.. why do so many of you want 6-speed manuals? Having spent time in both 5-spd and 6-spd EVO 9s.. I really don't feel like it's worth it. You just spend a lot more time rowing through gears..
