Ive seen a handful of people here use other oil filters. When changing their oil. Why is that? I paid 9 bucks for my OEM filter+ the metal drain plug gasket. Is it the price?

I have one to add. Is it a common practice for an Evo owner to change that metal drain plug gasket because it's something that needs to be done every oil change or is it just for peace-of-mind?

I know if my dealer wasn't 30 minutes away, I would get an OEM filter everytime but since Advance is just a mile away, I go there.

I dono why i dont use the oem one but i guess it is just peace of mind.

 

My metal washer is still fine after two oil drainings, but I'd like a spare on hand before I need it. As far as filters go ,I'm happy with a purolator or wix as they sometimes go on sale 2 for $6.

If you get 4 filters at a time, jugs of mobil-1 and a couple of washers, you could be set for 2 years without having to make a trip to the store.

 

You're paying way too much for your OEM filters/washers. Get them from RussellM on here and shipped to your house, it will cost you less.

 

i paid $8.xx for oem filter at the dealer. im using bosch filter right now for $6. i will probably stick with that or puralator cause its cheaper.

 

go to scm they offer 35% off all oem parts, i bought 6 last time, running a fumoto valve so i don't need the washer, i think i paid around $6 for one filter

so? those filters i listed arnt bad either way. its not like im using fram. i know whats good and whats not.

$6 - $8, doesnt matter to me. my oil changing intervals have been at 2.5k miles anyways. plus i hate the dealership and they are far, so the local autozone is quicker for me.

 

Is fram or bosch poor quality? I'd like a good filter, but not spend too much either.

 

Bosch and Puralator (pureone) are quality products. I see nothing wrong with saving a few bucks while having the same or better quality.

What to avoid is Fram. Never buy fram!!

 

Well, I would rather spend a few dollars more. And have the "peace of mind"..
Not to mention an oil filter that was designed for the car/motor..

Why not use one of those oil-extracters thingies that suck the oil up from the dipstick tube? That way you won't have to loosen the drain plug.
