I don't know about other people, but I spent 4 months reading and researching mods on here before I bought my x.

A pipe is a pipe, as long as you dont add too much weight and lose too much power, it doesnt matter how many sections it divides into or many tips it has. The purpose of exhaust system is to direct the heat away from the engine bay, reduce sound and to filter out toxic material. Most power on turbo cars is having no exhaust at all but I'm sure you don't want that, and many race events won't allow that anyways.

In my opinion, just because the car is inline 4 doesn't make two exits 'rice', because the car comes stock with two. Majority of cars these days don't really have true duals anyways, look at 350Z, its a V6 yet the pipes combine before it splits again. Cars that come stock with dual exit look good with duals because of the bumper arrangement, and careful attention paid during the designing of the rear, but cutting out a section of bumper to fit a dual on a car that came with single would most likely end up looking pretty riced up, so is adding a non functioning tip that doesn't spit out fume while the other one does.

Duals!

Although I do like singles as well, just prefer my own car to have duals. That empty cutout bothers me for some reason.

well correct me if im wrong but dosnt single yield more gains in power than a dual ever would
the way i look at it the more piping it is the more bends it is the more bends and piping = More restrictive than single and Dual weighs more most of the time
and one more point isnt it widely known that single exaust always sound better than dual

........waiting for some one to correct me =)

Dual doesn't necessarily mean more bends. An extra foot of piping isn't going to make much of a difference either. The only factor would be extra friction because a larger single pipe would have less friction, building a boundary layer on a large pipe instead of two smaller boundary layers (less air contacts the pipe walls). This is a negligible factor in this application. Weight is likely to be similar as dual tips doesn't necessitate dual cannisters.

Going from theory, a single larger exhaust would be deeper, where a dual exit would have a higher pitch sound. It is a matter of preference. Remember, louder/deeper doesn't always mean better. I think Porsches (especially the 911 turbo) sound good, but they don't sound very deep. /shrug

Like I said - it is all personal preference. Deep can be cool and my friend's STI (catless) sounds great, but I've heard some evos that sounded great but weren't super deep.

The Perrin was my fav of the bunch. Like I said, personal preference. You want your car to sound like a V8. I prefer a smoother drone that climbs in intensity as the rpm rises. To each his own.
