Steering wheel vibrates in gravel mode

i just noticed this today...the highway was a bit damp, so i switched it to gravel mode...at around 75mph my steering wheel would vibrate, and it's a pretty strong vibration. it goes away once i switch it back to tarmac. is this normal?

I don't think that's normal. Are you sure you were going the same speed in gravel as in tarmac? You could have an alignment problem or a worn down inner tire that only vibrates at 75 mph. I was on the freeway yesterday when all of sudden it starts to pour. I switched over to gravel and kept it at 75-80 mph; had no problems.

i'm on stock wheels/tires, car only has 675 miles. and yeah i was going on the same speed. i switched it multiple times and it did the same thing. of course i figured it's probably something with my tires/wheels, but then on tarmac mode it doesn't vibrate. it's odd because it's not there anymore. so i don't know what caused it this afternoon.

Could be a particular type of surface. In fact in my case it was. I had a similar experience of steering wheel acting out of the ordinary but I realized it only does it on this particular road that's old and uneven kinda bumpy and wavy. I don't know if that's your problem anyways hope you find out.

i've noticed this since day 1 with my X. running in gravel mode in the rain on the highway, i sometimes get a really subtle and firm vibration. i've never switched between the setting to notice a change and always thought it had to do with the tires being cold and water on the ground.

It's so you feel like you're driving on gravel...dah! All kidding aside there shouldn't be any change to the feel of the car while driving in a straight line resulting from the diff setting!!!

I would get it checked out at the dealer.

The car comes with a default negative camber setup on all wheels. All my tires got worn out on the inner edges because of this. Maybe an alignment will fix it, but I'm not sure though.

But if its happening only in Gravel mode, that sounds pretty odd to me. As others have suggested, take it to the dealer and see what they have to say.
