I'm ready to pull the trigger for an MR, but all these issues with the paint is really a pain. This has to be acknowledge by Mitsu and fix it under warranty!

thats not going to happen. All mitsubishi cars have cheap paint. Its just the way it is.

Clear bras, mudguards, and a proper hand washing technique will help the most...

I think he refers to the "like a bad nail polish job" reference...

I don't judge my fellow X owners...I promise.

I'm coming from an e46M3 and the paint on my M is amazing....I've never seen such cheap paint with the EVO X. It's unreal how many rock chips I have on the rear fender near the doors. I have a clear bra and can't imagine what it would be like if I didn't! It's pathetic for a $30K car.

i've heard some people say they wanted to try putting Mercedes clear coat on their cars because of the supposed hardness of it... I don't know personally, but I have read that a few places.

I will say this my sisters 97 Elantra had some of the worst thin paint I have ever seen, just after a year or so if you go any thing on the surface it would cause it to peel. My 96 civic had decent paint and it was left outside in the elements. As for newer BMW's most have bad orange peel, but be thick and durable but def. orange peel.

Yep, mine is peeling. It's also now at the body shop and Mitsu is paying for their garbage. Problem with paint not just with mitsu, but with others as well is new EPA standards on the type of paint and thickness in which it is applied. Honda has paint peeling issues as well now. Soon, most dealerships will have the same issues. Environmentalists, thanks.

Question; where is a good place to get a clear bra for the front of the car? This includes the headlights and the fogs?

Yep the new standards are resulting in poorer paint on all new vehicles. Go to NASOIC and the new STI's are having even worse rock chipping issues than the EVO. Maybe the EPA should take into consideration that poor factory paint means more aftermarket repair paint jobs which means more paint dust in the atmosphere overall.

Excellent point. Seems like people need to start speaking up more in many issues in this country. Seems like we're getting lazy speaking out. If I knew where to do something, I would.

I have a 02 Maxima and the paint is crap. I took it to a paint shop and they said that its been repainted but ive owned it since day one. took it out the lot at under 10 miles. so yeah then he was telling me that there has been a lot of times that brand new cars get scratched while its being shipped to the US so when its off the boat it gets sent to a paint shop and gets repainted and then sent to the dealer. But i wouldn't think thats happened with the X because everyone has this problem. guess its just what the guys ^^ up top said.
