LESS HP, WORSE PAINT, MORE WEIGHT, sigh cars are not what they used to be...

I wouldn't say less HP. Average HP of cars has risen a fair bit since the 80's and 90's. Remember when 200 HP DSM's were the fastest cars in their class?

I stating to the fact that its noise and exhaust fume restrictions that restrict the automakers from selling cars with more HP and TQ figures. Regulations

All of the new water-based paints are crappier than the old oil-based enamel paints.

However, they are much better for the environment.

You can still get a good paint job with the newer paints--it just takes lots of layers. Our black Audi A6 has an amazing paint job. It's kind of "soft", and scratches easily, but there are so many layers of paint and clear coat that everything buffs out easily.

Yeah, all manufacture's seem to be using BASF's water based paints! You can really tell the Evo's paint is super thin, look around the creases and caps of your door's, it's defiantly a lot littler than the panel it's self! My cool silver turns to a ilgher shade of gray making the gaps on doors stick out.

That really sucks man, I have to polish all the scratches out of mine this spring and you have me paranoid! Can you tell me what you were using? Rotary/DA, pad cut, and polish type?

Thanks!

My guess is that he was definitely using a rotary.

If he burned through with a DA polisher, then we're all really in trouble!

based on what i've read, i'm guessing that repainting the car in a quality paint would fix this problem, wouldn't it? i'm a little bit of a perfectionist, so i'm kind of considering doing this.

edit: instead of creating a new post, i figured i'd just bump this one back up

I think you get the record for revival of the oldest thread.

So my post is not OT, yes our paint is crap. Wax it once a month, clear bra the problem areas (rear fenders, sideskirts) and always handwash.

Thin paint = weight reduction.

I find that the paint on the X is better than my old IX. My X is PB and my IX was a tarmac black, so both would show swirls pretty easily.

In the daylight, the swirls on my IX were pretty bad, but at night, the car looked great even when it was dirty.

I remember just putting your finger tail onto the paint of my IX would put a scratch into it...

Everytime I go to my garage in the morning, it seems like there is another scratch on my car.
