FAST Key

Done a bit of searching, with no exact luck. This actually surprises me.

I purchased a used Evo last night, and traded in my 09 GTS. Problem is, dealer says they don't have both fast key fobs. So, I'm going to keep my extra old fob, but I'd like to get it reprogrammed to the new car. Simple question: Dealer only thing? Or something a technically inclined person, such as myself, could handle?

dealer. Unless you're on gone in 60 seconds. Then a 12 year old with a typewriter can do it.

You made the mistake of buying it without making them give you or reprogram your key fob. Your problem. And it is something that you can only get done at the dealer.

Hey, typewriters are amazing pieces of equipment

Sucks, oh well. I'll go talk to them today about it. They didn't tell me they didn't have the key until everything was said and done. But then again, I also didn't give them my second fob

Bit of a rude reply... I didn't see him complaining about it, just asking a simple question.

To the OP, the dealer is your only option. But having purchased the vehicle there I am sure if you go back in and kindly explain the situation they will be glad to program your extra fob. Good luck hope all works out!

Hey webman, I would just talk to the sales person you went through, and see if he can get you the hook up....

I thought that you had to have 2 active key fobs to activate a new one. Doesn't make sence to me but I could have swaron thats what I read in the owners manual.

Also to OP, the fob you got with ur evo, Did it come with the silver tag on it? Prob make it easier for the dealer and less of a headache for you with that code on the tag.

Either way good luck and hopefully the dealer will take care of you

Even if you reprogram, the failsafe key inside the remote won't fit the new car.

Call the dealer and demand they order you a new key. They are the ones that freaking lost it.

thats a silver blank that can inexpensively be replaced though.

dont know that the dealership lost it as much as it could be the previous owner that lost it. being that it is a used car they are not required to provide 2 keys.

hell if he can get a free key, more power to him

hell no, why buy a new car when i can pick one up used after someone like NOiZE trades it in ( and it's WAYYYY cheaper.)

I have a 15k loan on my X and 18k miles, I didnt want red, but i wanted an evo (and it matches my 99gsx) but none of that matters now that I have an X in my drive way

they gave me an auto start fob (which i haven't gotten to work yet) and one FAST key fob,

I bet i have the auto start to a different car, though there is a small antani near the rearview mirror that i dont think is stock, so maybe i do have a remote start.. haha
