Anyone have this gas problem?
To shorten it all up I had for the 1st time pumped gas into my Evo X, and upon pumping the gas pump kept clicking as if the tank was full. I entered the vehicle, and the car was not full at all but maybe half a tank.
Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks for the advice.

it happens to me ocasionally on my 05 ralliart. There's this one station near my place which pumps faster than the other places I've been to, so the gas leaves the filler nozzle at a high rate, but the tube can't keep up with the rate it's going in, so it kinda backs up and causes the nozzle to click off, so i usually have to pull the nozzle handle about 3/4 and it'll fill without clicking until it's actually full.
another thing I have observed is that some times you fill it full, but the gauge won't read it as full but instead 3/4 tank. It only happens at certain brands of stations though so I think it's the fuel, the gauge will go up to full once you drive it a bit.
In my owners manual it says "put the nozzle in all the way and fill till it clicks off. then pull the nozzle out half way and then fill again till it clicks again, do not add any more fuel after this click"
hope this helps, check your manual to see what it says about filling the X

That's quite interesting. I've had that happen in the past to my other cars, and I could have sworn the pump was broken. But the gas station attendant came out and showed me that I was just not putting it in straight enough or correctly. It was quite a few years ago, so I don't remember exactly.

It's more than likely just that one pump.
Sometimes you get that pump that goes extra slow, sometimes you get the one that always clicks when it's not even close to full. Just try a different pump next time.

i had this problem the other day. luckily i was with my roomate who know how to fix it.
it was simple... sometimes the gas pump just doesnt go in right... so all he did was put it in straight instead of downward kind of... and then kinda push down on the pump...
and it worked!
i went to the same pump the other day and i tried his method and it works... sometimes you have to just put it in differently
hahahaha

I had this problem even on my 09 Lancer GTS. There was a specific position that would cause it to pop off... if I pulled the nozzle out about an inch, it wouldn't do it. It was only a couple of pump types too...
OK, so this is the EXACT same problem on my 01 camry. But the cause may not be the same.
The problem in my case is that there is a pipe leading to the gas tank that has a filter in it. In my case, it has accumulated too much particulate matter over time that causes the gas to seep through it slowly. This hence causes the gas to back up to the pump making it *think* that the tank is full. I hence have to ensure the pump is sticking a little out every time and that it is not pumping at full speed.
The solution, I was told, is to remove this pipe, clean it out, and it should be free of this problem. Alternate solution is to replace the whole gas tank assembly. It is a major hassle in the winter season as I have to stand out in the cold all the time while I pump, holding it at partial speed. Even the fixed low speed setting at the pump is too fast for it. But I've just been too lazy/scared to fix it and I don't wanna spend on a car that old.

This just happened to me a couple days ago. It took me about 10 minutes to get half a tank.
I was pissed.
Anyway.. Ive got gas plenty of times before this and never had a problem. Just don't use that pump anymore.
