Evo X custom sunroof

Hi guys,

Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to have someone install a custom sunroof on the Evo without destroying its looks? And if so, how much would it cost roughly?

Thanks

Anything is possible with enough money

The stock roof is aluminum so it likely won't be strong enough to support a sunroof.

call around to different glass companies. I dont know about price but some will still do sunroofs.
Keep in mind that it will never be as good as a factory installed.
I worked as an auto glass installer for 7 years and I can tell you that over time they all get wind noise. Even factory ones leak, and when they break they are never the same because its impossible to get all the glass out of the tracks.
good luck

Sounds like you bought the wrong type of car. Didn't like Civics? I kid, I kid.

why would you buy a car like that and want a sunroof? an evo is supposed to be performance oriented, it definitely is. there's a reason the battery and the washer fluid is in the trunk. you dont want that extra weight that high up. not to mention, most aftermarket jobs are ****ty and will probably leak.

It doesn't seem like a good idea considering the roof is aluminum. And I'd have to check, but I think I remember reading in the Service Manual where it explicitly said 'no' to adding a sunroof.

How much are you looking to spend? I'd imagine having it done right (if it's possible) is going to cost ~$2000. That's a lot of money for a seventh window. Semi-relevant story: My dad has a Pontiac beater (biggest POS ever, not even a worthy beater) with a custom sunroof and even though the install is clean, the thing still leaks when it rains and howls (wind noise) on the freeway. And more recently the motor died and it now remains permanently shut. Anyway, my point is even if you have the install done right, projects like this usually come with some baggage in the form of increased maintenance and hassle. Not to mention it more than negates the benefits of having a lightweight aluminum roof.

its almost like why would you buy a car like that and not want a sunroof? i cant think of one performance car in the Evo Xs price range that dosent come with a sunroof.

as for one i believe you can buy a factory one from mitsubishi that goes on the lancers and have your own shop install it, thats the way i would go. im a sunroof person, i have my own personal thing going on to have a sunroof. ill update later

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with having a sun roof in an evo. Who cares about weight up top unless your hardcore tracking your evo. I personally love my sun roof and use it all the time.

Then again I don't have an aluminum roof and dont track mine.

My Evo VIII SSL had a moonroof and I really enjoyed it. I do miss it on my X - alot. But I miss the leather even more. A car feels less claustrophobic with the moonroof open.

Had one of those...to many problems. Couldn't you just buy a regular lancer rook skin and head liner...I thought about doing it, but it probably going to be pricey.

GSR-SST with sunroof. importing may end up paying less than what my base GSR costed new.
