Smart Key Install
It's possible. It involves purchasing and installing an array of sensors in the front doors, cabin, and trunk area. And running the wiring. And buying the fake key thingy for the ignition. Also, the keyless operating system (KOS) looks to have its own ECU. In addition to installing the KOS-ECU, you will probably need to head to dealer for them to do some reprogramming to get everything to work.
stokEd is right, you would need to buy 5 or 6 sensors, a module (brain), button for the trunk, get it installed and have the dealer program it. Big $$$.
Just get a after market alarm that has a transponder in it that unlocks the doors when you get close to the car. I had one back in 2001, they must have even nicer ones out now.

If you check the manual on the smart key thing it seems like it would be alot more then just 1-2k. There seems to be a crap load of sensors you have to install in the inside of the car, door handles and trunk button. It seems like alot of work.
It is a great feature and I never thought pulling keys out of my pants was a pain in the a$$ until I had it.
Now when I drive the wifes car, I stick my hand up to the wheel and grab air before I sigh, grunt, stretch and drag the keys out of my pocket.

j/k . . . I would love to have a smartkey on my Evo IX, but that is just impossible to do, so I got the OEM start button, pretty useless actually, but still cool Thread
