Hood flutter - any quick fix?

Call me obsessive but the hood on my X flutters slightly at highway speed. I'm inclined to attribute this to the fact that the hood is pretty light, although my VIII never had this "problem". It's not a huge deal. I'd just rather NOT look out over the hood and see it moving around. And yes, I have adjusted out the rubber hood stops at the front of the car. Is this normal?

Have never hit mach speeds like Mr. Simon, but I can say that my hood does not move a bit. I would take it to the dealer. They are probably going to laugh at you, but get it checked out regardless. This is the stock hood we are talking about?

Yep. Completely stock. I don't imagine that the dealer will take me seriously though.

Well just walk in there as serious as humanly possible, and tell the service advisor your complaint. Then ask to have a technician ride with you so you can demonstrate the problem.

Why would he just make this up?

Like bighec said, just request that someone ride with you so that the problem can be shown to a service tech.

to the OP. I know what you're talking about. you really have to look at it at first. Focus on the edge/line of the hood that you can see from the driver's seat. it moves around with wind turbulence. I don' t think it is anything to worry about and i don't know if i believe others don't do the same. maybe people aren't looking at their hoods as closely as we are.

update: my hood just flew up and smashed my windshield and roof and i crashed into a concrete divider. every bone in my thorax is fractured and lungs punctured.

I'm eternally grateful for you still being able to post and help others out like myself.

My hood jiggles some and it has always been a tiny concern.

now with the new info, I am having the vehicle towed to the dealer for repairs than to a wind tunnel for testing to validate the fix.

Thanks again-
JF

As I mentioned in the original post the flutter is barely perceptible. The only reason I notice it is because I look through the narrow gap in the windshield wipers at the edge of the hood and see it jiggling a little. I also notice that if I crane my neck and stare at the hood vent while driving at 65 plus that there seems to be some movement around there, as well. The more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to believe that it's normal. But thank you all for your replies...

Guys, there are rubber bumpers mounted to the radiator bulkhead that are adjustable to provide tension onto the hood. You can screw them up and down to put more tension on it, hence, eliminate the flutter. It's probably that one of them is screwed in a touch to low. Unscrew it a touch, and you are good.

On the Evo VIII's, they are about the size of a quarter in diameter. On the Evo X they are probably the same. When you unscrew it (by hand, no tools necessary, just grab it with your fingers) it will raise the hood up a touch (When closed) and put tension on it, while the hood latch is latched shut. It creates a push/pull situation keeping your hood taught.

I tried adjusting those a while ago, and to different heights. The flutter is still there. I can live with it, though. It's probably due to the hood's lack of weight.

i think almost every car's hood moves a little bit when you are going fast....but i can't say i've noticed mine moving...i'm usually looking at the road ahead of me and not the hood
