test drove an Evo X today

So i test drove it..I enjoyed it I know theres potential there and that the power is very very linear... not a kick in the *** like the evo 8/9.

My concerns are this.

The clutch grabs way to high..maybe its because i'm use to my acura?

the shifts seem longggg as **** as if i'm shifting from here to califorina.

I am worrying about seats, weather striping, door panels fading.. anyone else experince this? I read about the user 626 with 36k on his Evo x experincing these things.

The clutch does grab high...but probably seems really high because of your RSX. You'll get used to it in the first couple hours of driving the car.

The shift throw is pretty normal compared to the Evo IX I had before my X. Probably seem like longer throws because of your RSX. It's a much shorter throw than other manual transmissions. You can fix this with a short throw kit for less than $150.

Can't comment on the interior materials fading since I haven't heard anything. You can always get your windows tinted if you're really worried about it or use a vinyl/plastic protectant.

Looks like you're in Raleigh. You should check out the Southeast Region subforum. There are a group of us who have regular meets probably 2-3 times a month. You should come out and hang with us.

I think your observations are accurate...

The clutch engagement height and length of shift throw will definitely be an adjustment coming from Honda/Acura.

An after market short throw shifter is an easy mod and should take care of the shifter throw. Not too much that can be done on clutch height. It's similar to the WRX... just takes a little time to get used to.

The interior build is a bit cheapy... you've probably read other posts about staples in the seats, etc. etc. My interior is holding up well... no fading or other issues you mentioned. But you need to set your expectations... you're not getting (or paying for) a Lexus interior.

Clutch grabs no higher than VIII or IX, but all Evo clutches grab high.
Power is more linear, stock is weaksauce and needs a tune badly.

I had a 2006 civics si coupe and yes it grabs higher than your car. The throw is not as nice and is longer than the rsx. the interior is not as nice either but I have had no issues. IT does not have the vtec roar up top. but it is a great car that I have enjoyed for over a year and has been reliable and I have no regrets it's a really special kind of car.

sweet another raleigh person. Now you just need to seal the deal on getting the evo. All of the problems you are concerned about are minor and/or can be changed easily. The car itself drives splendidly and is a beast. BTW once you start modding the power starts to be more of a kick in the *** as the difference between spooled and not spooled up become increasingly different (the stock tune has a lot to do with this). You would probably enjoy coming out to a meet to get a closer look or even a ride in a modded x to get a better feel for the car's potential.

All concerns are valid not sure about fading though. Get the car if u want a awd beast. Everything else u can get use to or fix down the road.

get the 10....they make good power with bolt ons and handling is out of this world. My bro has an rsx-s and he was bragging about his handling. Let him take the evo for a spin and his mindset is totally different now lol..
