thats the misconception about cashiers checks. what you have to remember is a buyer of a cashiers check can still put a stop pay on it. they could say they lost it or got flushed down the drain.

this.

When I sold my car to carmax, I was given a cashiers check [Wells Fargo]. My bank [BofA] told me that $500 is available immediately out of $15,000 that I deposited. The rest can be widthrawn after 10-business days.

Got my car at all star mitsubishi in nj. Gave them a personal check and I was out the door a few hours later with car. They were asking for a bank check I was able to talk them into the personal check. I work crazy hours and told them I would never be able to get to the bank, I thik they just wanted to make the sale so bad they said F-it take the car.

I put 26k down on an S2000 back in 02', gave them a personal check. I ended up pullling up my account online to show them the funds were available. They honored the check and let me take the car and sign the papers.

They could have called the bank as well....
