Yeah idk... but it's not doing it anymore. I actually stuck my head in the engine bay after I started the engine. I'll try and let the wife help me next time. Thanks!

Not sure what yours could be though, pop the hood and try to single out which part of the engine compartment or motor it's coming from.
I started getting this the last few thousand miles. This sounds like a backfire to me for sure (stock exhaust). I don't think this is what the OP is talking about.

I have the same noise. Mine is modded but it sounds more like from the middle of the car back. You can hear a small clunk when you start the car, then about 3-5 seconds after you hear a more audible one. I'm thinking it comes from the gas tank because it sounds more hollow.

When things in your car start heating up they will expand....sounds like something with the exhaust to me. I wouldn't worry about it.

To be honest, i get this same set of noises in my es... it always scares me that it may be in the gas tank like a previous person said in this thread. Hope our cars don't blow up randomly some day...

It's not the exhaust if you just turn the key so the electronics are on, you'll hear one in the rear of the car. That's with my car sitting all night without being started. Then when you start it that's when I get the louder one.

^this is exactly what I experience everytime I turn the engine on.

And I dont think its a backfire either.

Also, slowly releasing the clutch when accelerating from 1st, there is a clunk sound, too. But whenever I accelerate a little harder, there isnt any clunk noise. Could this be the clutch issue that an X has?!

I doubt it is clutch because as I said, I get the same thing and I have an auto.

I don't have the clunk while shifting. I had to put in a Exedy Stage 2 clutch because I burned up the stock one. If you still have the warrenty for that I'd get it checked out at the dealership.

I'm actually reporting "two" different clunks.

1. when I turn the ignition on
2. when slowly releasing the clutch to start moving

same here.

maybe I should record the sound and upload in youtube.
