Black rear-end...

If most people on here are like me, it gets kinda old constantly having to wipe off your trunk and rear bumper because of all the soot out of the exhaust. But I think I may have found something that helps prevent it.

A couple weeks ago I washed my car and I decided to rub some tire shine on the black "diffuser" on the rear of the car and the front grill to give them a little more of a finished look. Well I noticed a huge difference of how much black junk got on my car. It makes sense if you think about it cuz if you ever use it on your tires, it seems to catch all the dirt and stuff. I think that it was catching most of the crap that would usually find its way to my trunk.

Has anyone else ever tried this?

I don't know man, those tire shine polishes are made for rubber compounds, after letting the car set in the sun it may cause the plastic to shirk eventually leading it to crack... It could possibly even dry the plastic compound causing it to fade or crack. Good luck with that, I'll keep using my dish washing liquid.

I agree with Xtremist... there's other compounds designed for that material specifically. There's the Aerospace Protectant (303?) and various Armor-Alls and Mequire's/Mother's products available.

I had forgotten about this problem when I sold my last exhaust. I just got a new one and here it is again. I hate it.

I use the dash spray. I guess it's kinda like armor all for your wheel but this is safe for plastic and it makes the dull black plastic look good. I don't know hy it should crack when it's meant to prevent cracks on your tires.

I have a black rear end too. My arms, hands and well what do you know... so is my face. Oh, yeeaaaah. I am black!

Anyway, I do notice when I clean my car up that there is a black film all over my rear bumper and trunk. I am stock with the latest flash from TSB Number:08-13-011.

Adams VRT, and you'll never use any other products again for plastic trim or rubber.

They reformulated a while back so that it won't dry out or crack rubber/plastic anymore. It would even dry out your tires and make them brittle back in the day.

They have a new item they call their New Car Protectant, which works pretty good. It's low gloss and not as greasy, which is a step up from their usual fare. I got a bottle as a gift and was pretty impressed.

I had no clue they reformulated their product, which is a good thing none the less!
