I'm thinking of getting an X, question for those who have had an 8, 9

I am considering trading in my 06 MR for an '08 X GSR and I was just curious about what other people's thoughts were when they converted to the newer body style. I know the newer ones are heavier, but essentially it is just as easy to upgrade both, although the market for the 8's and 9's is a little larger at the moment, thus making it cheaper to upgrade depending on the parts I'm assuming. I like the features and styling of the EVO X a little more than the 9 that I have now, so someone please convince me that I'm not making a terrible choice. I know it is all about personal preference, but I have also heard people say that the 9 was the last of the "real" EVO's which I think is a false statement considering the X has the same potential, if not more. I'll search a bit more about it, but I haven't really found too much about the differences. Thanks in advance!

I'm getting one locally, plus I'm extremely picky about color. I'll only buy Graphite Grey or Blue. I like black but it's a pain to keep it nice looking.

i have owned an evo iv (used, bone stock in korea), and an evo viii (new, considerably modded here). with all the feedback i have gotten through my contacts, all the personal research i did, i tried to be best prepared for the transition. all in all, i occasionally miss the rawness of my viii, but overall happy with the features of my x mr.

without getting too into it, here is my opinion on it.

if you're wanting power and are going to do some heavy modding, get the ct9a. the 4g63 engine will take a lot more than the 4b11. the 4b11 doesn't have too many parts for it but it's a relatively new motor. the 4g63 has been around for over 10 years.

if you want handling and experience the technological marvel that s-awc is, go with the cz4a. the chassis of the x is considerably stiffer as well.

good luck with your decision.

I had a IX and now the X. Car still handles great. How good though? I wouldn't know since I haven't taken the X to the road course to push it just yet.

I like the look of the X much better, much more of a finished car, the IX was a raw car. Wheel selection with offsets is much more friendly, about as friendly as you can get for the japanese import car market.... I don't regret my decision in any way although the IX did have some advantages of course.

I owned an VIII for three years. The X is just a little less "raw" than the older versions. But in terms of every day driveability, it prevails. I can honestly say that I'm more attached to my X than I've been to any other car I've ever owned (and I've owned many). I have a fairly aggressive tune and intake from Works and the car is pure bliss to drive. As far as the aesthetics are concerned, the X has a much more "grown-up" look. It's just a perfect car in every way. Now if I could only have gotten leather seats

Thanks for it info. Yeah, basically I'll just be doing the basics like intake, exhaust, boost controller raised to max safe level on stock components, and a tune. That is all I'd be doing, and the overall feel is important since I do take long trips every now and then (no cruise control is killing me). I do like the looks of the X better as well, but not enough to matter too much in my decision. So from what I'm seeing, if I just want basic upgrades to make it a little faster and enjoy a nice handling car while still being comfortable and tight, the X is the way to go. If I want a 600HP beast, the 9 would be better.
