Raising the OEM wing/aerofoil on GSR
Raising the OEM wing/aerofoil on GSR
Hey guys/gals. I've been thirsting for a CF rear wing for my GSR. Today I thought of making some brackets up to raise the OEM rear wing. I was thinking maybe 9 - 10"...something like that, to bring it closer to the roof line. Maybe this could hold me off until I can afford a decent CF one.
I can use some 6061 Aluminum I have lying around and weld it up similar to that of the arms for a VARIS or Voltex wing. (Similar to the one in the pic attached) I can use my buddies water jet to cut out the design in the middle to save weight.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever done this before? Also if anyone has any experience with Aerofoils and/or Aeronautics ect.?
What do you guys think?

Would this be for looks only? I would assume raising this spoiler would be bad idea since it was designed to work in this position.

9-10 inches makes the GSR wing close to these heights.
Talking with guys who use raised CF wings they say it dramatically increases rear downforce when cornering and stabilizing at high speeds. Not sure if the OEM design is meant to be up that high, but it seems like most other aftermarket wings are designed the same way...

Most other aftermarket wings are close to the same design as OEM from what I see. And a little longer to extend out the sides of the car.
I guess the only thing I can do is make up the brackets and give'er. See how it works and let you guys know...

Seibon makes the OEM wing in CF. I'm pretty sure it's the SSS/MR spoiler. That's another option, raises your spoiler and it is CF. If you wanted additional downforce, you can always add the gurney flap, too. That is, unless you require massive amounts of downforce, in which case you would have to go to something aftermarket.
Well I think when you're talking a track car you want to have the wing more in line with the roof line. That's why most of the aftermarket wings are made that way. And if you look at any decently made track car the wing is higher.

If it's for functionality, than you should probably be driving 120+mph consistently to generate enough force on the spoiler to actually help with downforce. Can't argue that high spoilers don't look good on some cars, but I haven't seen to many Xs that have a spoiler that high.
