is a tune affected when the battery dies?

because the ECU can learn the car adjusts a bit to ur conditions and what not. When the battery dies the car goes back to ur base tune u got. So if u put down 400whp when u got tuned, u will still be putting out 400whp when u put in a new battery. Then the car will re learn whatever it learned over time.

no, think of it as a hd, do you lose all your files when you shut the computer off?

Your ECU is a flashable ROM.AKA EEPROM(Electronic Eraseable Prgrameable Read Only Memory).This is a non-volatile memory and does not lose any information when the battery is disconnected.
