Evo X gas tank
Evo X gas tank
Hey there,
I'm new to the evo community and i own a RR evo x. I am a daily driver was wondering if anyone has noticed this as well:
The evo x has a gas tank of about 14.6 gallons but when the gas light comes on and i go to fill up i only end up buying around 11.5-12 gallons of gas
Where did the other 3.1-2.6 gallons of gas are??
I know that the evo isn't the best when it comes to fuel economy but it is nice to at least see some decent numbers wether it be whp or mpg =P
thanks,
Nick

I had the same doubt too, every time i refuel after the "light" on my screen, i only put 11-12 gallons. In my hypothesis, maybe it is a way to protect the fuel pump ? I get annoyed by the "ding" a lot.
There's still a bit of gas left in the tank when the light comes on. The light means it's getting low, not it's empty or about to be empty. I've ran my car quite a ways with the light on, then the last bar on the digital gauge disappeared and I could still drive around. I've never ran out of gas, but with the digital gauge showing completely empty and driving on that for another 10 miles or so, I filled up 13.5-14 gallons.
You would be right in this assumption, when were flying through our turns and accelerating under boost, the gas is swashing around in the tank, with an extremely low tank, you are VERY likely to pull air, especially in our cars.
The ding in most cars goes off when you have less than 1/8th of a tank of gas. There is another ding after the initial one that goes off about 15miles later (@ 20-22mpg).

The X has a saddle tank design and the pickup is on the left hand side. It's pretty easy to slosh the gas over to the right hand side and starve the engine.
i believe there is a law that when the light goes on, you have at least 2 gallons or 30 miles left. i heard or read that a while ago but it is pretty standard with all vehicles with a gas light.
thanks guys that was a lot of help... also i forgot to include one more question.
How many miles are left on the DTE screen when i looks like "---"
I know it becomes like that after there are 30 miles left but then the gas light comes on after about 10 miles and i get paranoid and go to fill up
and also what was the highest DTE you have had on the car after a fill up... i had 320 after filling up on 93oct from Mobile

Since the ding comes on around 1/8 of a tank 14.6/8 = 1.8 gallons. So depending on your current MPG (about 21 for me on the highway), you have about 37.8 miles.
I always say, "Oh crap i got about 20 miles to find a gas station."
