A trip to the dealer for recalls went awry!
Well.. I have a nice little story that can relate.
I went to the dealer yesterday and dropped my car off for my 10k mile service and the fuel rail recall. I also had two dead TMPS sensors, so they replaced those and I had them put on my new winter tires while they were at it.
They called me later in the evening and told me my car was all set. I went to pick it up and pay. I was walking through the showroom of the dealer and the service guy was telling me how great the tires look and that they were really hard to put on. That sort of set off a little alarm in my head because he was being overly nice about it.
I got out to my car and started looking around it. I look at all the body panels and stuff to make sure there were no dents/scratches/etc. Then I look at my tires and they were fine too. Upon closer inspection, I looked at my rims (stock Evo GSR rims) and they have the f*ck gouged out of them. It looks like they took a metal crowbar to them or something. All around the lip of the rims (all four of them), the coating is just gouged out down past the coating and scratched deep into the aluminum. It looks terrible.
I stood there inspecting all of my rims and just looking at them in disbelief. I noticed the service guy peek out the window to see if I left yet, and he saw that I saw him so he came out. I told him they gouged my rims terribly..... He was silent for a good 30 seconds and the manager of the dealer came out too. He said "they'll take care of it for me" when I come in for the airbag sensor recall next week or whenever they get the parts in.. whatever that means. I'm guessing they're going to order me a set of new rims, because these are just awful and I don't even think I'd attempt to have them repaired.
It almost makes me wonder if I would have left and came back and said something if he would have tried to play the "oh you curbed your rims and came back" game. They weren't even going to tell me they screwed up my rims until I noticed. I was looking at the price of the OEM rims in the parts catalog and they're like $800 a rim. That's a costly mistake they made. I'm sure they get a discount on them though.
ALWAYS INSPECT YOUR CAR BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE DEALER.

Yea, that sucks. I think one of the main problems is that at dealerships they're paid flat rate so they really don't care too much how the job is done, just as long as it's done fast as possible. I'm glad I have a shop that I can trust.
That really sucks. I am on Long Island too and unfortunately I am hearing the same kind of stories with the other local dealerships as well.
I bought my car from Wantagh. After about 3 wks of picking up my car, I noticed a bubble forming on the sidewall of one tire. I called the service dept to get some info, and out of nowhere the douchebag service manager goes on a rant about how I "better not" think of modding the car if I ever want to get warranty work done there. He threatned to void my warranty without ever even seeing the car. I'm 40 years old, drive a bone stock Evo and this
d!ckhead wants to lecture me? I will never step foot in that place again.
By the way, Yokohama replaced the tire for free.
I think I will be making the long drive to Bell Mitsu in NJ for my recall work.

That's exactly what those scumbags would have done if you had driven off their lot without saying anything. I bet they were SO hoping you didn't notice anything. Personally I would never go back to those shifty bastards ever again for attempting to pull that crap on me.
Like you said, ALWAYS INSPECT YOUR CAR BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE DEALER !

not really a bad thing, just a mistake by the tech. tech don't own evo's and they just tightened it enough not to strip the bolts. they haven't heard of upper pipes or lower intercooler hoses coming off
learned the hard way when my evo was just new from the factory. they really don't tighten those bolts.
