So I thought I found myself an Evo...
Do you get dinged if the car's reported to have been broken into?
If the Carfax is clean and everything stolen has been replaced, a new MR for less than $30k is a pretty good deal. And considering the history, you have some leverage in getting them to lower the price. Even if you could find a '10 X where you are for $2k under MSRP you'd still be saving ~$9k, and even more if you get the price down and consider the difference in tax.

This is exactly my point... the OP could save up to $12K (after TTL) compared to a new discounted MR if the car in question checks out and he can lower the price some more. I bought 2 salvaged cars before after thorough inspection and they came out fine. One was an 03 civic Si which I got for $8.2K back in 2005. 15K miles later (over a year of ownership), I decided to sell it, got $7.5K for it. LOL, so much for depreciation on "questionable" cars... I virtually didn't get any.
@hibby - what is "negligible" in miles? Like 7 miles? Or 70 miles? And make sure to find out if the car was stolen (I assume Carfax would tell you this) or just broken into at the dealership. I can't imagine a stolen Evo not having been taken for a serious joy ride before being dumped.
dont buy it , shady story etc.
I would buy it around 20K and make it a track car :0 even if its an MR. I wouldn't buy other people problem. There is a reason why the dealer drop over 9k ... They dont do that for front seats and minor problems...
other wise for 29k in this economy, you can get a better evo then that even if it cost 2-3 k more. In the long run it will worth the extra money.

It's got 40 miles on it. It's at Manchester Subaru in New Hampshire if anybody else wants to move on it...I'm gonna take a pass, since 350 miles is a bit far away to act on a "maybe" right now.
Wait, just 40 miles total on the odometer?? That probably means only the interior was broken into... still a brand new car. I'd jump on it and offer $25K cash (if I had the money and wanted an Evo) after checking carfax and making sure that it has a clean record.
http://www.manchestersubaru.com/pre_owned.asp looks like a clean Carfax! The only thing that is not up to date is one open recall. If they indeed put the Recaros back in it looks like a pretty good deal. Also, I wonder if there is any interior damage that was done with stripping of the seats?

If they didn't touch the engine bay and never got to drive the car, and only ransacked the interior... then I seriously think it's a great deal if you can haggle the price a couple thousand off. As long as it still has full warranty coverage, and that carfax is clean, and the interior pieces/parts are all in there, seats are fully replaced, etc. $25-26K and it'll be worth it.
i would go for it 2 if the price was dropped a few thousand, idk im not a used car person especially 1 that has been fiddled with but this doesnt seem that bad, defintily check car fax
I went to see this the other day when I saw the ad, too. Here's the story from them...they say it was a product of "theft while still at the port." ground effects, wheels, and seats were taken. It currently has the base lancer seats in it, but I talked to the owner and he ordered the evo MR recaro's (said it was $6400) and he's putting those in and not raising the price. The paint looks pretty good. Lots of swirls on the driver's door...needs another good buff. Looks like there must have been damage to that door based on the paint (paint does look good though). there are some paint spots that could be better around the body kit, but it also could be worse. pretty hard to notice it unless you're close and looking. It also (oddly enough) has the "M" missing from the "MR" on the trunk...hehe. so, it's a clean, un-registered car with 40 miles...but I'd say it should go for around $24 maybe (especially since there isn't 0% anymore). But, it will sell as new FWIW.
Hope this helps! I was there and test drove an MR Touring and now I have decided that I do need one. Keeping my eyes open for a good one.
