So I thought I found myself an Evo...
2008 MR, negligible mileage, but sitting at a non-Mitsu dealership. Approximately $29,000. Navi, aero, the works.
Here's the interesting part...apparently it was at a Mitsu store that closed, went to auction a few times, and popped up where it currently is. Pics show base-Lancer seats where the Recaros should be, and the salesman claims they were stolen while the car was at the original dealership, but they're being replaced in the next day or two.
I'm 300+ miles away, so I can't go check it out for damage or anything. Seems like a good deal until you start finding out the facts. Thinking I'm gonna pass but wanted to bounce it off the forum anyway. Thoughts?

let it pass..2010 models are out so there are even more deals on 2008-09s. there are plenty out there, you will find numerous more that work for you and you will be happy..i am speaking from experience of having to let go of cars i really wanted and having to wait longer, but in the end, it was totally worth it

Pass on it since the history is unknown. 2010's coming into dealerships and in Cali already is selling them at $2K off msrp. When the 2008's first hit the showroom they started out 3-5K above msrp, and within 6-9 months they were way below msrp and falling. I'm not sure the economy is anywhere near full strength yet with all the job losses, so your 2010 MR will most likely continue to drop in price imho if you wait. Wait for new.
If only the interior was broken into, it's not that hard to check out what's missing. Also, check the carfax report. I say, just keep an eye on it... wait till Christmas week (seats would already been replaced by then), go there... do a full inspection and if everything checks out, make an offer... say $26K! If that's a fully loaded MR, it would have been $42K and a steal at that price.
If the Carfax is clean and everything stolen has been replaced, a new MR for less than $30k is a pretty good deal. And considering the history, you have some leverage in getting them to lower the price. Even if you could find a '10 X where you are for $2k under MSRP you'd still be saving ~$9k, and even more if you get the price down and consider the difference in tax.
