E85?
E85?
So...i'm hearing about the new maps for E85. i was talking with a friend about it, he has a boat and know a lot about gas mixtures, he advice me to do a deeper research.
are our cars ready to run that kind of gas knowing all the problems that ethanol can eat the seals, ruber hoses, etc?

Lots of guys in MN run it. I'm converting on Monday.
You'll need more fuel pump and 1000cc injectors up to about 420hp (on a Dyno Dynamics). 800cc max around 320, which isn't all that even the stock turbo can give you.
Consensus seems to be that the stock lines are fine but if you install the UR single Walbro kit then you shouldn't use the clear line that comes in their kit. The BlaqOps kits are more expensive but come with safe lines. You can either do an inline pump with your stock pump, replace the stocker with a Walbro 255, or go whole-hog with a BlaqOps double-pump (if you are planning to go aftermarket turbo). You'll want a fuel rail and FPR to go along with a double pump setup.
I went with the UR single Walbro kits for now. I used their hose but I plan to go double-pump six months out so it'll be getting re-done soon enough anyway.

Hmmmmm... Maybe I’m too old, but I’m going to give you guys a chance to try it first and see in a few months what's going on with our seals and interns.
I won’t jeopardize my 40K car because "things seems to be fine"
Thanks for your response and details.

Many Evo 8s, 9s, and DSMs have been running it for years. They obviously have older lines and whatnot than you'll find on a X. E85 isn't something new, at least not in the Midwest.
The new X's have been doing it for sometime now.
Just look in the Dyno forums and see how many titles have E-85 in them:

you can get the injectors cheaper
And I recommend 1000cc injectors personally. The 800's don't leave you enough headroom.
You get CRAPPY fuel economy though. Part of that is the right foot seems heavier now lol. Gas is cheaper though. I'm saving about $10 a fillup.

Cobb specifies the DW 800's for their maps.
but you fill her up more often?
You'll lose an average of 4 mpg since E85 requires more flow (that's why the fuel system has to be beefed up). It's the additional flow that adds to its cooling effect and lends more power (similar to running a water mix in a meth kit).
That's because a mail-in tuner is never going to go for every available hp/tq that your car has in it...they're going to use a safety margin to allow for differences between mods and fuel quality. In this case it'd be 30hp or so. 320 is nice but 350 is more nice.

You guys are all a bunch of little devils. Ok, Ok, you convince me
I’m going to think about it
No issues with the millage, I made 10k miles in a year so I can afford it for now.
Isn't the AP E85 map write especially for DW 800 cc injectors? I shouldn’t go with bigger ones with the same map right?
Why Cobb shows in their web site the same increase of power (+28% I think) for maps running E85 than oct 93
