Just a little rant here! I have been trying to work out a deal on a leftover 08 RR GSR SSS for the past wk and have sent the dlr five emails asking for detailed numbers on the deal. This morng I get this beauty of a email from the salesmanger
Dear Matt,
How soon can you be here? I have the car ready and waiting for you with over 50 lending institutions ready to compete to earn your business, and I can guarantee you we will not lose you over price. I have been working with Mitsubishis for almost 6 years now, and I can tell you this Evolution will not disappoint! With the F.A.S.T. key and S-AWC with Active Yaw Control, this car satisfies the most demanding customer's appetites for performance and convenience. The 2008 Evolution X includes an all new aluminum block and head with a steel timing chain with cruise control (an Evo first)!
There's only one catch: I can't sell you a car until you are here. I could send you an email telling you what we might do if you come in, but I want to actually send you home in a new vehicle. I will bend over backwards to earn your business, but you have to make the decision and stop in to see the vehicle. Let me know when you will be here and I will schedule a VIP presentation!
Sincerely,
I think he most also write for Car & Driver on the side
This dlr is about 4 hrs away, and all I am trying to do is lock in a deal so I don't waste their time or mine! For sure, Subaru's buying experience is leaps and bounds better than Mitsu! When I have bought my last two STI's, both times I did all the negocations via email, and didn't have to bother with the BS. It seems Mitsu is still doing business in the 80's with there sales tactics
I know not all the dlrs are like this ex Southcoast out in socal, but it seems all the dls in the midwest and eastcoast are really hard to work with. It's a shame!

Even if he did steal his info out of some brochure, at least he looked up the car he was talking about, which is what I wish I could say for most Mitsu dlrs. haha. I bet he learned alot about the X from what little he read just to send you that email.... Its really pathetic. Maybe its because of the downturn of the auto industry that's keeping dlrs from sending their worker bees to car clinics to learn their merchandise, but its still no excuse for a salesman not to know the product they're selling, inside and out.

Oh well, it's time to move on to the next deal.
I can see why they would not want to give hard numbers over email. People will usually take those quotes and get their local dealer to meet or beat the quote. 4 hours is a long way, but if you know you want the car, why not make the drive? I'm sure someone else will.
Do this.. (this is what I did).
Call him. Give him a price. Tell him if he wants your business he'll reply back with a yes. If not you're going to buy your car from Southcoast
.
It worked for me, my dealer called me back in 5 minutes and said yes to my price that I named.

Yeah, you know I really don't give a crap if the salesman knows jack about the EVO, or any other car!! What drives me nuts is the fact the only thing they are trying to do is get me in the showroom for the good ole four squares selling practice and to low ball me on my trade-in instead of straight shooting with me and giving the numbers, so there is no screwing around. I guess I just realized why they still have the car in their showroom

Where in Ohio? How far are you from Louisville?
I bought my car from Swope Mitusbishi, and worked the deal out over email and phone to the penny before I drove up there.
I hope it gets better for you, man. Good luck!

Going back to what I (and others) said, you need to have control of the buy. You're the one with the money, they are the ones that need the sale. You don't NEED to give up your money. Therefor you're the one in power.
My dad taught me long ago if you're at the lot. Drive the car (if possible) and write your price on the back of the business card and GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE. The longer they keep you there the longer they can rattle you. From his email this is EXACTLY what they want. Call them, give them a price. If they can't do it... move on. /close thread

Yup...they want to low-ball the trade and tell you that they've already applied the $2k rust-proofing package so how can you expect them to take it off the car now? Real story from when I made the 4 hour drive to Milwaukee.
They probably have 50 lenders lined up to give you a rate 1.5% over market rate as well.

Hmm, I know the Massillon dealership had an octane blue X, it was priced at 25k, it's probably gone by now??? It was new as well, Ron Marhofer may have an EVO left, last few times I checked they had sold all their stock. Medina Mitsubishi always tried pulling that "come on in and see us" crap, at least this guy took the time to do a little research!
